International bowling balls vs US bowling balls

It appears that manufacturers have created different bowling balls for marketing in International countries. Are these international balls sold in the US and are they certified from tournament use in the US?

Anybody know?

As long as the ball is on the Usbc approved balls list, its is approved for competition and for the USBC tournament.
But the acceptance of these balls is at the discretion of the tournament director and/or league official, so you have to watch out and better check with them first.

The PBA rules state that a bowler cannot use an international ball in any PBA event if they are a citizen of the United States. Only international players competing in a PBA event are excluded from this rule

Pba rule
9.2.4 Use of International Bowling Balls. International bowling balls are defined as bowling balls that are not available for purchase within the United States and may be used provided that:
a. The bowler is not a United States resident.
b. The bowling ball was manufactured by a PBA registered company and has an equivalent bowling ball available within the United States.
c. The bowler has received written approval prior to using any international bowling ball in PBA competition.

May have something to do with trademark / copyright laws.

I know bowlingball.com sells some International bowling balls they are just about the same ball
as the American market uses but they have a different look to their American counter parts such
as the Roto Grip Overseas Release Theory (http://www.bowlingball.com/products/bowling-balls/RotoGrip/10206/Overseas-Release-Theory-Pro-X-Pro-CG-ONE-OF-A-KIND-15-lb-ONLY.html) and the Roto Grip Overseas Release Maximum Theory (http://www.bowlingball.com/products/bowling-balls/RotoGrip/10205/Overseas-Release-Maximum-Theory-Pro-CG-ONE-OF-A-KIND-14-lb-ONLY.html)
and the Roto Grip Overseas Release Mutant Cell Hybrid (http://www.bowlingball.com/products/bowling-balls/RotoGrip/10202/Overseas-Release-Mutant-Cell-Hybrid-Pro-CG-ONE-OF-A-KIND-15-lb-ONLY.html) basically their the same ball just a little
bit different in color and the name stamped on them and I'm pretty sure they are USBC legal.
