I grew up in Costa Rica and picked up bowling around my junior year of high school. Circumstances at the time only allowed me to practice once a week and play once a week in a league. I had an Ebonite Matrix Trimax that I loved and a spare ball. When I left for college at Iowa State University unfortunately I couldn't bring my bowling balls because they were too heavy. I went back home about once a year and never did get around to bring them so over time I just sort of stopped bowling.
On my last trip home I finally made up my mind to bring my balls back, I went up into the attic and found my bowling bag and opened it up to find that my Ebonite Matrix had cracked in half. I was heart broken... I'm back in Iowa now and I am finally going to go ahead and get back into the game. But I will approach it differently this time taking advantage of the new circumstances in my life.
I live in Des Moines, IA. There's 4 bowling alley's within easy driving distance so I should be able to get more practice, and also I'm a lot more disciplined than I used to be back in high school so I'll be serious about my practicing.
I bought 2 bowling books to get my mind back into the game and they also have some practice drills that I'll be working on.
The goals as of right now are:
-Practice 2-3 times per week
-Score every game using the scoring sheets from bowlsk and then enter the results into their system for tracking and analysis.
-Bowl at least 1 game work of practice drills each time I go to practice (probably Lo-ball)
-Get average to the 170 range by Fall and join a league.
-Pay close attention to spare percentage with a goal of picking up 90% of 1 pin spares
As for equipment I think I'm going to order an Ebonite Evolve and then buy a 2 ball roller and a spare ball locally. I've been trying to find a first ball locally but everything seems really overpriced and without much selection... I'll try to call the shops later today and see if I can find something I like, otherwise I'll order the Evolve tonight. Either way I should have everything drilled and ready for action by next weekend and my first day of practice will probably be Sunday 02/07 at Merle Hay Lanes for their $1 per game "Beat the Clock" special.
