It's my birthday and I'll bowl if I want to.

Well the only thing I asked from my family this year was the opportunity to go bowling with the wife - just the two of us. This is something we literally haven't done in over a year, I've gone by myself, and I've taken my daughter bowling, but not just the wife and I.

So last night we decide to hit the bed early - in our case it means 1am instead of 2am. Unfortunately daughter and son were both up at 4am, and son decided that he was unhappy again at 6am. Needless to say, our 8:30 wake up time turned into a 10:15 wake up call, and the kids were only interested in the normal routine - the bribe about going to Grandma's didn't move them at all.

Up until the bowling equipment was brought out. Daughter was thoroughly convinced that she and Daddy were going bowling again, and Mom could stay at home w/baby brother. All the convincing in the world couldn't sway her from the belief that she was going bowling too. (I seem to have created a monster). So while Mom was getting ready, I got the kids ready, put them in the car, put the bowling bags in the car, and then finished shovelling out the driveway. So before I've even bowled the first frame, I've moved 90 pounds of bowling equipment, 45 pounds of children, and probably 150 pounds of snow -- I was sweating up a storm, and I'm finally on the back end of a bad case of the flu.

We drop off the kids at Grandma's, leave amongst the tears of anguish that they don't get to come too, and go over to Creekside. This is the first time I've gotten to bowl since November, and since I'm not at 100% healthwise, I decided to bowl for fun instead of really working on anything. After 3 games I discovered some things.

1. My wife has improved with her accuracy even though she's not bowled in close to a year - she averaged 100 over the 3 games.

2. The lanes were bone dry. I took a Cell Pearl, Mars, and LM Hornet, and the CP was puking out halfway down the lane - the Mars was going brooklyn by the end of the 2nd game, and when I finally benched those two and went with the Hornet - I threw 70 pins higher than I did with either of the two other balls.

3. Bowling for fun is a blast - no pressure, no problems, just get up and have fun. I rediscovered the joy of just . . . . bowling.

What a great day. Now if I didn't have to cut it short to go to work.....
