Punkrulz

So my second league since high school (2003) starts in 1 week. We recently finished my first league since then which was a 9pin no-tap. Did that for fun and practice. I wound up making a lot of changes between that league and now. Here's everything:

High school I used an Ebonite Predator. Not much hook, and I don't throw many revs. Before the no-tap league started I upgraded to a Mutant Cell. I still don't have a ton of revs but the ball is able to deliver more at the pocket than this one. I'm still working on my form as much as possible, and getting tips here and there. It's just a matter of committing those!

This week I've been making a lot of changes. My mutant cell was redrilled ever so slightly to try to compensate for a finger-tip issue. The pad on my ring finger would become very sore after 3 games. They tried to reverse the finger tips but that didn't help, so a redrilling was in order. I bowled 4 games that day before the redrill, 187 average.

On 9/2/10 I went in because I decided I was going to go to a straight ball for 10 pin spares. With the mutant cell I had a bad habit of missing 10 pins, and even on a 6-10 I would hook and chop the 6 pin only. I initially was going to get a TZone for spares but I stopped them before drilling and got the Hammer Black Widow Clear ball instead. It's a beautiful ball. Practicing the spares went better than anticipated.

While I was practicing with the hammer, the slugs dried on the mutant cell and the pro-shop owner drilled that as well. I had some problems with the thumb hole being way to small on both balls at first, but he graciously took care of them. I only bowled 1 game with the new redrilled mutant cell and hammer black widow combination - 202. I had to stop due to a thumb injury while throwing (started peeling some skin!).

As long as the thumb heals up by Sunday, I'm going to practice with one of my friends on the league. He's a real great bowler and we bowled together in high school. I'm anxious to throw a 3 game series with my changes to see how they work, although I'm still nervous about the thumb holes. Fortunately, all of these changes had a great outcome:

I've discovered a good pro-shop. Previously it was recommended to go to a particular shop. This one was also recommended, but I went to the other instead. I regret that decision. After dealing with this pro-shop, I realized the last one definitely rushed me into a decision, and seemed to have their business more in mind than my performance. I may have gotten the wrong strike ball so only time will tell. This shop is also my local one and they were phenomenal in helping me with my needs. Hopefully I'll post back by Sunday!
