Decided to not to take the wimpy way out and threw the Virtual Energy last night. During practice, it was obvious that the only line which was playable was a 8 out to about 3 shot. What a difference from week 1, plus I was on 27-28 which historically has heavier oil. This ball skids through the heads effortlessly and charges back to the pocket like a truck. The extra skid this ball exhibits did get me into trouble with a couple of cross lane spares sliding by a 6-10 and a 3-6-10. I also slid by a 7 pin on a shot that would have easily been converted using the NV or NVS. Guess I'll just have to get used to this reaction. Besides that, I had a really good night shooting 701. The lanes did transition somewhat, but I didn't have to make a huge move. I moved in maybe 2 boards with the same breakpoint. I noticed on one shot in particular that I didn't hit the ball very hard. The entry angle still carried the 10 pin which I know would have left a weak 10 with the NV or NVS. The real test comes next week on 39-40. Lane 39 is usually 5-10 boards tighter than 40 which may mean playing much deeper on 40. The other choice is to use the Mutant Cell on 40 which doesn't snap quite as hard on the backend. The Mutant Cell doesn't skid as well through the heads as the Virtual Energy, so I'll give both a shot during practice. At least now I know that I'll be sticking with the new equipment for the entire season. Hopefully, the sky is the limit.
