This week I went from the far end of the house to the first pair the league bowls on, 25-26. This pair has always been slick with bad carry. Thought it would be a good test for the Virtual Energy. Tried to throw the 8-3 line on the left lane, but the ball reaction was just too strong. Decided to go with a 2 ball approach using the Mutant Cell Pearl on the left lane and the Virtual Energy on the right lane. I pounded the left lane all night striking on 16 of 17 possible strikes. The right lane was a nightmare. The Virtual Energy went too long and snapped too hard leaving the 10 pin nearly every shot of the first 5 I threw on that lane. Tried to play a flatter line which caused the ball to come in high leaving a 4-6-10. Throw a ripping 7-10 into the mix, and I got really ticked off. I had tried throw the Mutant Cell on the right lane early on, but couldn't get it to finish strong enough. It was looking like after all this, maybe the lane had transitioned enough to play the Mutant Cell with more loft. I did this for the last game, and I finally got the right lane to carry with a more gentle entry angle. What kills me is that this series could have been huge (upwards of 800). Bad carry amplified with missing a couple of the 10s I left meant only a 617. Just goes to show how one lane can really screw up your game. The mental toll it took was huge. It's tough enough having to play the 2 ball game, but throw this fly into the ointment and it really becomes a challenge. Next week should be better as most of the other pairs are pretty even. Will most likely go with the Mutant Cell the rest of the way this season.
