Ebonite man

This was the first night of the second half and the team was bowling unopposed as there is a vacancy team in the league to get the league up to 16 teams. Had 25-26 which has been by far one of the worst pair we bowl on. It was critical to get into some kind of rhythym during practice since the pace was going to be much quicker than normal. Had a so-so feeling after practice and didn't really have a good line to the pocket on either lane. The lanes were oiled fresh as there were alot of kids out from school this week. With the fresh oil, decided to go with the Mutant Cell to start the ball rolling earlier. This turned out to be the fatal mistake of the evening as a severe wet/dry reaction was seen, coupled with horrific carry. Left 8 10 pins along with many other single pin spares. Throw in the token 7-10 split and this was the 2nd worst night of the season not even coming close to shooting 6. Maybe the faster pace played a role, but it appears that wrong ball choice was the main factor. It wasn't until the 3rd game that I changed to the Virtual Energy and things were looking up until the 10th. That's when the 7-10 reared its ugly head. The lanes had transitioned by the end of the third game where they actually might be playable. Decided to throw 3 more practice games on the same pair to see if my theory was right. Sure enough, the carry drastically improved and resulted in a 668. I don't mind having a bad night when I don't throw the ball very well, but this was just unreal. I took a look around the league on the 2 pair to my right and the same thing was happening there. 190-195 average bowlers were shooting under 500, backend reaction was bad and carry sucked. I suspect the house may have changed the shot since the outside 5-8 boards were much more oily than 3-4 weeks ago. Normally an errant shot thrown out to 5 would come back, but now a 2-4-10, 2-8-10, or washout is the norm. If I didn't know better, I'd say they are putting down a sport shot now. Next week is 35-36 which has been a good pair. Normally, this side of the house is drier, so maybe the extra oil will make it play like 27-30 used to.
