In the waning weeks of this season, it is becoming more and more evident that the old Ebonite stuff is the way to go. Had 37-38 this week which has been the highest scoring pair for the league. Tried the usual straight up 6 line with the Total NV and this looked good. The major difference between the Ebonite and the Storm/Roto Grip is that I can't get lazy with the release or the shot won't recover. I have been experimenting with a bit more of a cupped wrist position to make sure I get the extra lift. Didn't really want to get too extreme with this as I did have a major issue when I was younger with some tendonitis. Plus, being older doesn't allow me to do the things I did when I was in college. Besides, I am a stroker by nature, so this seemed a bit awkward at first. Once I got the line, carry was only fair tonight. 10 pins were a problem and all of them were ringing 10s. No weak ones with this line and roll on the ball. Tonight the spare shooting was atrocious. I missed 3 of 6 10 pins I left and there is still an issue with hanging in the spare ball. Tried to not change balls to shoot the 10 after this, and even though the NV came off my hand nicely with good direction, it's backend movement caused me to miss left. I had tried in the past to flatten my wrist into a weak position to lessen the roll but even this didn't help much. This just proves that getting that T-Zone drilled in the offseason is a must. Despite all this, had a decent night with a 645. I still had about 12 free games to burn, so I went down to 9-10 for some after league practice. This pair had alot more oil and a straighter line was needed. I moved in to a straight up 10 board line and this did the trick. There also wasn't any room for error to the right like a normal league condition. Suspected a sport shot might be out there and sure enough after I was done, I confirmed this with the mechanic. Ended up with 1310 for 6 games with a 265 high game and 180 low. With 3 weeks left, I will stick with the Ebonite equipment and these will be the go to balls for the 11-12 season. Another high scoring pair awaits next week in 31-32. Maybe I can get my first 7 of the spring as these have been in short supply this year.
