Had another high scoring pair with 35-36 being on tap for tonight. Lanes again were oiled fresh and backends stripped. So far this season, the house has been doing the oiling about 1/2 hour before the start of practice, something they rarely did last season. Started with the Mutant Cell again and played a bit more of a belly going from 8 out to 5. Trying to play straight up 5 just wasn't going to work as the ball tended to overreact. My first couple of practice shots were using this line and both ended up through the nose. Once the scoring started, it looked like shooting a big game out of the gate was in the making. Started with a hambone, only to leave a ringing 10 in the 5th. Covered it, and ran another hambone. Looking at a possible 279, threw what I thought was the best shot of the game only to leave a solid 8 on the right lane. Covered it, and left another 10 for a 258. Started a bit slow in game 2 coming in high on 2 consecutive shots. Fortunately, these were both easy spares (a 3 pin and 6-10). Made a slight move left on the approach with the same target at the arrows. Ran another hambone after the move and was again up on the right lane in the 7th. Left a second solid 8 ending the run. Got another bad break in the 8th with a slightly high hit leaving a 4-9 for the first open of the night. Strung a turkey and 9 on the fill ball for 224. The last game appeared to show a bit of a transition. An apparently good shot went through the nose for a 4-6-10 split. This was more likely due to hitting the breakpoint a bit early causing an early snap rather than transition. Decided not to make a move, but to get the breakpoint slightly farther down the lane. This resulted in a couple of light hit swishers, which suggested that no move was really necessary. At least I had some room for error on the outside, as long as I didn't get too slow with the shot. After putting together another turkey, was set to finish once again on the right lane. At this point, the game was fairly close, so getting the hambone here would have meant locking the other team out. Could not believe that I left a 3rd solid 8 on the night. I don't think I have ever left that many solid 8s in one night, especially on only the right lane. Not striking left the door open for the other team to win it with a double from their anchor. Fortunately for us, his shot was wide leaving a 2-10 split and giving us the win. The final tally was 688 and I don't think I was in the top 5 series in the league for the night. At least 3 700s were shot, possibility more. I guess everybody is starting to get the new lanes down as evidenced by the scoring pace. Hopefully it will be my turn next week to shoot a 7. The previously crappy 25-26 is on the slate, but this pair may no longer be considered the worst since 2 of the 700s were shot on this pair.
