Bad backends

Don't know where my last post went- I know I did my last entry about 2 weeks ago. In any event, just a summary of what happened last week. Had my usual arsenal and started as always with the NVS as has been the norm over the last 6-8 weeks. This ball is the earliest rolling of the three and should pick up the backends fairly early. It was evident that something was very different as the ball kept coming in flat no matter what angle of attack I chose. It was also curious that pins were tending to skid on the bases rather than just fall as per usual. Numerous out of ranges were the result and it seemed that there was an awful amount of oil on the pindecks. The house does oil 1-2 hours prior to league start when there is no play on our end. This backend problem was confined to just my pair. It was happening across the league. This poor backend reaction resulted in 12 10 pins on the night along with a couple of swishing 7s. When you have that kind of carry, there is no way you are going to put up any big numbers. Based on this turn of events, I decided to call up the Virtual Energy from the bench this week. I had shelved this ball before due to its too strong of backend reaction. Tried a straight up 6 line and this ball cut through without any effort. The backend problem was definitely still there, but the strength of the finish improved carry dramatically. Going from barely shooting 6 last week to 7 this week was a welcome change. Only had to make a minor move left late in game 2 otherwise it was pretty much cruise control last night. Overall scoring in the league has been down since after the 1st and either the house has changed oil which moves down quicker or they are doing a crappy job stripping the backends. Either way, I hope this is the solution that will last the rest of the season. It's back to 25-26 next week which has been a much better pair since the new lanes were installed.
