Another find from my archive, my look at Applying the Art of War to bowling.

"The Art Of Bowling"

Over two thousand years ago a Chinese warrior-philosopher named Sun-Tzu
wrote a book called The Art of War, it's a book on strategy that can
still be applied and used today and can be used in about any endeavor.

Here we'll look at two thing's: "strategic assessments" and "emptiness
and fullness".

1-STRATEGIC ASSESSMENTS

To begin with lets look at these five thing's. They are the
"The Way","The Weather", "The Terrain" , "The Leadership" and "Discipline".

THE WAY-
Means for you to make sure that the team and you have the same
aim. So they all share victory and share loss, without fear of the game
ahead.

THE WEATHER-
What the weather is like can affect the game greatly. Hot
and dry the lanes tend to dry out faster, rainy they stay wet
longer. If the humidity is up the approach might be stickier. Also if
raining out watch out around the entrance & exits the floor will be damp
from people tracking in water.

THE TERRAIN-
This can apply to the lanes, find out want they are like. If you see
them oiling ask about the pattern, watch the machine see how far it
goes. If someone is bowling on the lanes you will be on watch what
their balls do. Find out how the approach feels "do you need to change
soles or rough up the the sole on your shoe?" All the information you can
gather will help in the game ahead.

THE LEADERSHIP-
The captain must show intelligence, make plans, make changes effectively when needed.
Show courage when you see opportunities and seize them!

DISCIPLINE-
Organization set that team line up right, put each bowler in
the most effective position.

2-EMPTINESS AND FULLNESS

"THOSE WHO ARE FIRST ON THE BATTLEFIELD AND AWAIT THE OPPONENTS ARE AT
EASE."
Means get to the lanes early, It gives you time to get ready.
Like getting your shoes on, setting up your equipment etc without rushing.
By doing this you'll have energy and a clear head when you start.

"THOSE WHO ARE LAST ON THE BATTLEFIELD AND HEAD INTO BATTLE GET WORN
OUT."

This should happen to the other team! you'll be ready to go when the
other team comes dragging in and rush around to get ready. Plus they see
a opponent whose rested and ready to go. By doing this you've emptied
them of their force and yours will be full.

"APPEAR WHERE THEY CANNOT GO, HEAD FOR WHERE THEY LEAST EXPECT YOU."

When the game is on watch the other team, if they can't play the line needed
and you can, then play it. When needed play the line nobody expects! when the
other team see's you do what they cannot, it will help break them.
When your team see's you do what the others could not, they will rally
and march on to victory.

So here's thanks for the wisdom of SUN TZU, The art of bowling has many
chapters these are just a few.
