Stamina and a smooth release

by Tony in Iowa on 02-11-2010 at 08:07 AM
I wasn't able to bowl on Monday as planned because of a snow storm. I ended up going in on Tuesday to Val Lanes for their all you can bowl for $9.99. I was hoping to get in 3-4 games before my arm tired. The lanes were pretty dry because this was at 9:30 pm, right after league play.

The first game I had some trouble getting used to how dry the lanes were and threw a very sad 86, I'm not counting that one, I was just warming up. I also was worried that my arm was hurting a little early

A promising practice

by Tony in Iowa on 02-07-2010 at 02:11 PM
I picked up my Ebonie Matrix spare ball and went to the Early Bird Special at Air Lanes for $1.29 per game. Bowled 3 games and I'm happy to to report my arm felt great. I was there 5 minutes before opening time of 10 am and the place was packed, mostly with fairly serious bowlers. Luckily I shared the lane with a couple playing very casually with house balls. I was very worried to get real serious players who would think my game sucks horribly... I'm just way out of shape.

Frustrations and being out of shape

by Tony in Iowa on 02-06-2010 at 01:58 PM
The same day I got my new ball and bowled my first two games I went home for a while, worked on homework and then decided to go to a nearby alley to throw a couple of games. I paid for 1 hour and when I threw my first throw my arm basically broke down. I couldn't even pick up my 15 lbs ball, I'm horribly out of shape after 8 years of not playing...

I was still very sore Thursday and Friday but Saturday I finally felt better so in between MBA classes I decided to go throw a game at

The first outing, 2 games

by Tony in Iowa on 02-03-2010 at 08:06 PM
I got my Ebonite Evolve drilled and I'm getting used to it, I hadn't bowled since '02 so I expected to throw a 110 average at first.

The first two games weren't too horrible, although I couldn't find my stance and the 15 lbs ball felt pretty heavy. I bowled a 126 and a 129, the real scary thing is I only picked up 14% of spares, and 0% of single pin spares... I don't have my spare ball yet, so I was using a house ball as a spare ball and I felt like I had no control of it.

It's the first day of the rest of my (bowling) life...

by Tony in Iowa on 02-03-2010 at 02:50 PM
The Ebonite Evolve has finally been delivered. I tracked it on Fedex's website all morning and it was delivered at 12:07, just after noon. I cut my lunch short and will take off from work a couple of hours early to get it drilled and take it for the first test drive. So by tonight I should have a decent idea of how out of shape I am and some stats to post onto BowlSK... I'm thrilled!
