    Default High track question

    Hi guys,

Today when i was bowling, i was approach by an ex-pba member. He commented that my timming and form are good, than he took a look at my ball. He said i have a very healthly track , but i should work on getting the track closer to my index finger. I believe I have a high track with the track being less than 1 inch from the thumb hole. However, the track is a bit far away from my index finger (2-3 inch).

Now I regret for not asking him to explain it the benefit of his recommendation when I was there.

Can anyone explain this to me? And do I approach it by different drilling? Or release?

    Thanks

It's in the release. The axis tilt has the biggest controllable affect on the track area. If it's good by the thumb then the finger(s) are releasing fine but late with the thumb causes the track to flare away from the finger grips.

you know I'm curious why he would say that. A very high track would lead me to say you are staying directly behind the ball and getting a good roll. Depending on the THS you're bowling on that might be a good thing. My track used to be very high as well and wanted to go the opposite way to change my axis tilt. (that is my track went further away from my thumb and fingers). Scores and average went up and started carrying better. Accomplished this by changing hand position. When the lanes dry out really bad I'll switch back to staying behind the ball, less hook more roll.
