    Default Back into Bowling

Hello, folks, I'm Greenday. I used to bowl on my high school's team. When I was in college, I joined the bowling club and bowled once a week non-competitively. Went to Afghanistan for a year after college, didn't get to bowl there. Recently decided to start taking bowling seriously again. God did I forget what it was like to bowl on actually oiled up lanes. It's a beer and pizza league so it's not very competitive but it's fun. I got a new ball since I was bowling with an old Nitro ball a friend had given me. Old as hell, chipped up. Time to pick up a new ball. Now I'm bowling with a Storm Frantic. I'm having a problem being consistent with hitting the pocket. Keep coming up just a little short or hitting the brooklyn side. I normally bowl from the outside of the lane on the right most arrow. I'm thinking of switching this up and moving my starting spot and my mark but I'm not sure where I should move those two. Any help on that would be appreciated.

Hello and welcome to the boards. I would try moving your feet four boards in and your target two boards in. See how the reaction is and adjust from there depending on the difference from above.

I live in Monmouth County. Normally I used to bowl at Shore Lanes. It's a solid alley that's close to me. But my friend that I'm in a league with found the current league we are in at Howell Lanes.

Welcome Greenday!! You may try the old standard of Starting at the 20 board (middle dot) and throwing to the 10 board (2nd arrow from the right) and then adjust from there.

I went bowling today and got my thumb hole drilled a little bigger. Wasn't sticking and my ball was hooking much better. Had to move to the left 3-4 boards starting out. Then they oiled the lanes and I restarted on the 20 board. Boy was that perfect. I focused hard on staring down my mark until after my ball already hit it and I was nailing it nearly every single time. Was getting a lot more strikes, spare shots were perfect. My league average is a 160, but after the lanes were oiled, I bowled a 170, a 190, a 210, then a 198. Tore my thumb after my sixth game but it's not bad. Just gotta get my bandaid on and it'll heal. Thanks for the help!

Glad it worked out for you. Sounds like that average may soon be climbing up.
