The oil isn't as thick but longer. If both use say 40ml but one goes down 35" and the other 43' then the center with 43' will cover more square footage with the same amount of oil the oil would be thinner. Just a guess though.
I cannot for the life of me figure this out. Everywhere I've always gone, I started around the 20 board and my mark was the 2nd arrow from the right. This has always worked for me and I'd always shoot 180-200 on a normal day. Better days, I'd be shooting anywhere between a 190-220.
I started a new league about a month and a half ago at an alley I've never been to. If I do my normal thing, my ball does NOT hook properly into the pocket. I have found that I have to bowl from the 15th board and aim at the 1st arrow on the right. That'll work fine, except I'm hooking so far into the pocket that I tend to leave a lot of ten pins and it's less consistent. Spare ball shooting to the left is a ton harder. I normally do my 3 lanes per pin from the head pin but that doesn't work either. I do that and it's a guarantee that I overshoot. I've talked to other people and they say it's the hardest alley they've bowled at in the state.
Now, my first logical guess would be that it's just really heavy oil on the inside and since my ball is meant for medium to medium-dry oil, that'd explain why if I throw more inside, it won't hook. But when I do, my ball does not pick up any oil at all. There are no rings of oil on my ball when I bowl at this place. Ever. Anywhere else, there will usually be 5-6 lines of oil after a throw on my ball that I have to wipe off. People have complained that it's too oily, but if that's true, why isn't it on my ball?
I went bowling at my normal home alleys and tried to do what I use at my league alley. Does not work at all. Go back to my normal thing and I shot a 190, 210, and a 199.
Can anyone figure out what might be going on? I tried asking one of the guys that works there but he didn't offer up any real ideas.
