Am I wrong for wanting something like the Storm Modern Marvel?

I think, and this is just probably a current state of the moment desire, I want a ball that has a nice arc (not too angular) so that it is controllable and predictable, but even if it is a heavy oil ball, something that has a lot of energy to really smash the pins.

Is it wrong/right to think that a higher priced/higher quality ball will be able to retain energy better even if it is used on ligher oil than heavy sports patterns or fresh house oil?

The VIVID meets all of your prerequisites. I would get that drilled up and check it out before looking into a new ball, but that is just me. I have had a serious desire for a Mutant Cell Pearl....

From the reviews/impressions I got, the Vivid is a very tough ball to control. I am ecstatic about it but don't want to ruin it by being a bowling newb. I was hoping to wait for the opportunities to use it on sport patterns as well. So what I'm looking for is something in between. For the first 4-5 games of say a league or just my own personal practice on fresh oil. From what I understand, sport patterns use a lot more oil...
Of course I could also get the other-than-vivid ball drilled a bit weaker too?

One of the biggest mistakes beginner to lower intermediate level bowlers make it getting too aggressive of a ball for the pattern they intend to use it on. A heavy oil ball, no matter which one, will burn up the stored energy and not carry properly through the pocket. Yes, you can alter the surface and add polish. If that's the case, why not save some money and buy the ball with the higher grit surface and/or polish? All the reasonably decent bowlers I know have no issue controlling the Vivid so I'm not sure who or how good a bowler the people you are referring to are.
Being new here you don't know but I have a serious problem with the Storm/Roto-Grip company but their balls are top quality.

I guess what I'm saying I'd like to get is a high quality ball made for medium-fresh oil.

Is the Modern Marvel strictly heavy or can it last a good 5-6 games? medium-heavy oil ths etc?

How many games a ball will last on a heavy pattern or THS depends on a few things. 1. How many people are bowling on these lanes? 2. How many of them are using or crossing any part of your line? Even if all you are sharing with another bowler is the break point, there will come a time where the ball will bounce off that wall of oil too hard and leave some nasty splits or a washout.
