Drilling layout.

How would you describe this layout:

There is about 2" between the ring finger (right handed) and pin. Center of gravity is in the palm. It's on a 14# 900 Global Hook! Red/Yellow solid with OOB surface. The driller didn't have anything from which to identify my track or PAP.

I will try to post a photo if I can shrink one to the correct size for uploading.

Is this a basic drilling layout. Is it strong, weak.

I'm a newby and I'm curious and want to expand my knowledge.

It may work for you. It wouldn't do squat for me. The pin to PAP distance would be too short and the drill and VAL angles all wrong. How he chose this layout without seeing a ball you've thrown or see you bowl is beyond me. I would demand my money back and file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.

Looks like what was called a "Label Leverage" a 3 3/8" pin (given a average pap location or a generic pap ) with the CG near the middle of the grip.

It should give you good length, with a fairly controllable and tamer backend, good for for stroke types (I've used it a lot on my stuff). It shouldn't get you into trouble, it's a common layout.

To me, when driller's do this stuff it's like if a car didn't have an adjustable seat, just adjustable seat belts. If they are going to charge for drilling then they should do it correctly. The more I read on here about the poor drillings, etc the more I want to attend the school, get certified and open my own pro shop. Now if only I would win the lottery so I could afford to do all that.

That means the driller would have to take a guess, so I say he probably went with a generic PAP location (5">1"^) and used a basic layout. That doesn't mean he didn't do it correctly.

I took it as he didn't ask to see anything, like another ball, see him throw, etc. I stand corrected yet again. A newby that's been on here for 11 months so I assumed (uh oh not that) that he had another ball, even conventional grip, to go off of.

I'm just going by what he said, there might be more to the story that we don't know, that could change the opinions.

Taking the PAP off a conventional grip would be a waste of time. It wouldn't give you the same pap that you would have with a fingertip grip ball.


Here's a quote that fits this topic describing that layout:

A generic layout that works for almost any (unknown) PAP and a ball with a synmmetrical layout is a label setup - very old school, but it has its uses, esp. for beginners. Put the CG in the grip center and shift it 0.5" towards the positive side, and the pin at a 1:30 position (about 45° towards positive side), wherever it ends up through the pin distance. Yields a smooth arc, and with a long pin also a quiet big hook, with mid lane emphasis.
