    Default General Bowling Ball maintenance

I hope I'm not asking something that you guys have already beat to death on the boards...

I'm a fairly new bowler. About a year ago I decided to start getting serious about being a better bowler. Before that I was the casual person who only found myself at the lanes a couple times a year for a random occasion. I tend to make it to the lanes 2 or 3 times a month right now. I bowl for one to two hours straight when I go. So I'll usually get in 7-15 games at a time. (I take advantage of our lanes unlimited bowling for an hour at a time...)

About a year ago I also got a Brunswick Slingshot set up for me. I know it's an entry level ball, but that's what I need and I really enjoy it right now. My question is how should I consider keeping my ball in the best performing condition possible between trips to the lane?

I take a microfiber towel to rub the ball off in between shots, and I also have been using 50% rubbing alcohol on the ball before going out to the lanes. Are these methods I'm doing helpful, or do I need to be doing something different? I had thought about having the ball resurfaced again, but I'm unsure if even that would be necessary for me at the moment.

I'm just looking to hear how different bowlers maintain the performance of their bowling ball in between frames and games.

Towel between shots is fine, use the alcohol just "after" you get done bowling. So the dirt and oil doesn't sit on the coverstock and soak in.

    The Basic's:
    1. Keep a clean towel. After every ball, wipe the oil from the cover.
    2. After each bowling session, clean the bowling ball with an approved
    cleaner. (Alcohol is okay)
    3. In addition, be sure to complete a deep cleaning every 50 – 75 games.
This will keep your bowling ball at peak performance.

    Deep Cleaning:
(Use a dish washing detergent with a degreasing agent in it. Simply check on the label and be sure it is has a degreaser.
I recommend Dawn or Dawn Direct Foam.

    1. Fill a sink or bucket with warm water and
the detergent. Be sure that the water is
only warm and not too hot.

    2. Place the bowling ball in the warm soapy
water and let it soak for 10 – 15 minutes.
At this point, wash the bowling ball with a
    cloth.

    3. Wipe off the bowling ball and drain the
water. Repeat the entire process multiple
times or until you notice no more dirt and
oil in the water after the soaking phase.)
