    Default bowling against urethane

I do not know if this has been covered before, if so i didnt see it. I am a lefty tweener semi-roller med revs 15.5-16.5 avg speed. usually throw up the 7-9 boards and on synthetic i usually bowl with my hammer hot sauce solid as first ball. the other day i was bowling against this other lefty and he was throwing a hammer blue urethane ball on basically the same line just faster and alot more revs. he was messing my line up all the first game. i switched to my hammer trap and threw over the 12-14 boards the other 2 games. what would you suggest to be the best way to adjust using the same first ball instead?

Anytime someone bowls on your line, it can mess you up. Since I'm a right handed bowler, it happens all the time. I always say how I hate lefties because they usually have their side of the lane all to themselves. I think you did the right thing by changing your line/ball since your shot wasn't working. Being able to bowl on various lane conditions will help you improve your game.

yeah you did the right thing a few years ago me and my one budyd we always threw the same lines and we both had about the same speed as you and we had high revs soo we had to adjust/change balls every 8 frames but we where still getting some nice games cause all i did was use his bowling balls witch ik thatwould work and my would move way to soon soo if he wanted hte ball i was throw i would use the one he was useing and change my line cause i had more rev then him soo mine would hook more and i normaly used a weaker ball then him i used his raw hammer doom and he used the raw hammer anger and the doom is drilled weaker but i cna make them both hook the same just by adjusting.

soo in everything u did the right thing or u could of still used the same ball but moved 2-2 right or leftor u could of went 2 with your feet 1 with your target and played alittle bit different angle.

exactly what striker & vgw said changing balls and lines is your best bet but you said you wanted to stay with the same ball so i would recommend plaing 3 boards right of his while moving your feet 3 right or playing outside of his line because all he is doing is moving the oil around ...it probably is just easier to play a different line with another ball this way you dont have to try and make something work if you have something that will work

Move your feet 6 boards right and your target 3 boards right keeping the same break point. If your break points are roughly the same you can actually use the berm you guys build up as a kind of back board.

As I fellow lefty, I have run into this problem but not that often. I usually see if the other lefty is having the ball break more or less then mine and also where their ball breaks at. I also look at what line they are using. I usually then make adjustments to get off the same line that they are using. I really don't trust other peoples ability to be consistent so I try not to use the same line as another person. I have moved right and thrown a straighter ball because of another lefty and I have also moved left and curved my ball more to get off the same line. Granted when the ball gets closer to the pins and the pocket you really can't help using the same line at that point.

Here's a different school of thought brought up by one of the others. As a right hander we encounter this every night we bowl. We all pretty much start about the same area and end up moving left towards the end of the first game. If the other guy was really messing up your shot then I would agree with Bill to move right asap but I think I would try to stay more to where my comfort zone was first. Unless this guy was all over the place, on or near your target area, I would try to stay as close as possible to that area first. Especially in the first game because moving inside too early, where there could be a lot more oil, you may have other problems if you only have medium revs. Depending on what is happening when this guy is screwing up your shot, dig into your bag of tricks and try to overcome his area. By that I mean, stay in nearly the same place and try moving your "look at target" a little further out on the lane. Or try a different hand position or both. I know lefty's aren't used to having too many guys on or near the same shot as righty's are, so it becomes somewhat of a challenge, when encountered. Don't be intimidated because someone is in the same area as you. Overcome it and maybe you'll make them move !

Another line to try with low revs, lay down at 3 going over 5. I know I'm saying to roll at an angle towards the pocket but that's to help get the ball to the pocket with little revs. The issue with this line is there is little to zero oil out that far. Works for some while messing up some others. Some people also don't have the guts to play that close to the gutter.

thank you all for your comments and insights. so far the best thing that has worked has been to bowl just inside his track and i managed to make him move because he started going high and getting alot of splits the next week.
