Default What did I get myself into?

I had already planned on bowling in the Wednesday Seniors' League that will begin this September 5. But, my friend George talked me into this high rollers' league that bowls Monday nights over at Oakwood lanes in New Jersey. There are dozens of 300s and 800s that come out of this league every year.

Hopefully, the competition will bring out the competitive best in me - either that or crush my spirit completely. Will I regain the form that allowed me some amateur success back in the late 70's??? Am I nuts for getting nervous about bowling in a big time league???

Jay if I were you I wouldn't be too nervous about joining a competitive league as it will
more than likely bring out the best in you. I would rather bowl in a serious competitive
league than bowl in a more fun type league myself as the competition always brings out
the best in me when bowling and maybe some of those 300 games and 800 series coming
out of that center will belong to you this season.

Nothing wrong with a little nerves. I'm thinking the competition will help bring out the best in your game.

SO I get to me new league in a house that is new to me tonight, but I was doing okay - feeling confident and ready to roll. I noticed immediately that the lanes were hooking on the outside but holding down the center (read optimum scoring conditions). I decided on my Critical Theory as I figured the Nexxus might be more ball than needed. I start of with 2 strikes, a ringing 10 pin and another strike - feeling good even though it would have been nice to start off with a 4 bagger. All of my team mates are rolling well and I am bowling clean-up. So, the 5th frame comes and it is my turn, so I bend over to pick up my ball and I feel a POP in my left lower back (around the L-5 area) and my left leg goes numb accompanied my searing pain in my lower back. You gotta be kidding me. How do you throw your back out like this?

I shuffled my way to a 560 and came home to an ice-pack. hardly the start I was hoping for.....

How? By taking a repititous act for granted. Oh, sorry, I'm sure that was rhetorical.
Hope it feels better very soon. Show them next week that the first 4 frames were not a fluke!

do as the doctor says and you should be fine hopefully.

Doc says I have a herniated L4 and L3. The pain radiating around my left side and down my left leg is a pinched sciatic nerve. So, for now its ice ice baby....

Hopefully the ice has your pain act like a Mark McGrath (Vanilla Ice) and it just goes away like he did; one hit(?) wonder
