    bowl better?

it's hard to give any real advice with no actual information. all i could really say is...practice practice practice. bowling is a game of repeating your form, so the more consistent you can be with your approach the better you will be.

Tip I got from Chris Barnes was to slow the ball down and move up on approach, but, that was on a 40'+oil pattern(Like Shark). Also use the strongest ball(ie-neXus solid at 500 or 1000 abralon finish with NO polish). If it is a shorter pattern like 38' try using a Medium Heavy oil ball (Roto Grip beserk)at 2000 NO polish and slow ball speed.

Don't focus on your score, and instead focus on individual shots. Also, be willing to adjust (line, speed).
Bowling - it's easy when you understand all the physics beneath the surface.

    High league game - 290 x3

What's different about league compared to practice? I assume that you must hit 200 at least occasionally in practice or when bowling with friends.

If its just the oil pattern you either need a more aggressive ball or you need to play a more direct line.

If its the pace, you may need to take more time between frames when practicing.

If its the pressure of having to bowl well for the team, forget about the score. Focus on throwing one excellent shot at a time. Use your imagination in practice and pretend that you need to make each spare to keep your team even, or you need this strike to lock up the game.

Throw up 10 with a soft release
keep your elbow close to your body
    keep your balance
keep your arm loose on your swing. gravity is your friend because it is constant
roll the ball and follow through

You are psyching yourself out. Usually there is no difference between league bowling and practice. There may be an oil difference, but that's just a matter of adjusting. The one thing I typically do during league is not look at the score. Once you see you are getting close a a certain number you'll put undue pressure on yourself to reach that score. If you can't keep from looking at the screen toss your towel over it so your not tempted to even peek.

Once you do break the 200 in league you'll keep doing it.
