Thread: Double clutching

    Default Double clutching


    One of the guys who work at the bowling alley said that i was double clutching, i didnt know what tht ment undtill i saw myself doing it with my wrist. Should i keep it like that or try to fix it. If i decide to try to fix how should i do it?

    Having watched your video I still don't know what he was talking about, and in thirty+ years of bowling I've never heard the term used. I do double clutch driving our 1930 Model A, and if I ever get our '34 Chevy back on the road, I would need to do it down shifting into first as first gear isn't synchronized. Back to your problem the most obvious flaw is the lack of balance.

    Is that the AMF lanes near Kansas City? Looks like the same billboards from when another person posted.

    I didn't see the double clutch that I was expecting. I did see the very deliberate stop in the back swing before coming forward. It made your timing very late compared to your feet. It also means you're muscling the swing forward. To fix it, hold the correct finish position and swing the ball back and forth. Eventually you will develop a smooth, fluid swing without the obvious delay.

    I don't see what he's referring to either "the double clutch"

    But the thing I do see is your finish position and just how off balance you are, that's why you fall off to the right so far.


    Not to say you can't kick the leg up like that, a lot of pros do it. But they don't fall of to the right either, they a lot more balanced at the line.

    Now your release looks okay, strong wrist position and your playing the inside of the ball some.

    Should be a little more like this:

    A good position at the line, Good balance, slightly forward. You can see the proper toe-knee-chin relationship.

    I think the balance issue is being caused by the timing being off. The timing is a result of the delay at the top of the back swing. One thing causing a snow ball effect to the finish position.

    Something about your slide looks strange... and since that'd be your clutch foot I think that is what he's referring too. It looks like you stop, slide a tiny bit, then stop again. Hence double-clutch.

    I think all AMF'S use the same billboards. I live in NY and I know of two bowling alleys that use that same background.

    I think my slide looks funny bc I recently switched to sst8's and I'm still getting used to the new soles

    I am not qualified to give instruction on bowling, so this is just my opinion. I watched your video a few times, and when you take your slide step at the foul line it looks to me like your foot is pointed at the gutter. I think if you try and keep your swing closer to your body, and your slide foot a little closer to your release point, your balance will improve.

    What slide ? Lets see if we can get you back on balance. First off, in 50 years of bowling and 30+ years of coaching, I also, have never heard the term "double clutching". Watched the video about ten times and have no idea what that guy is referring to.

    Back to your balance. First off, a bowling approach to release the ball is not a speed test to see how fast you can get to the foul line. If necessary, we'll come up there and tie a rope around your waist to slow you down. Your back swing height looks ok, as does your release. The problem, and take a look at your video a few more times, is you are getting to the line, WAY TOO SOON. You are not sliding, you are planting your slide foot, so the weight of your body and ball is throwing you off balance at the line. What to try.......your steps should be, slow, slow, quick quick, not run,run,run,run. I would have you slow everything down, to allow you TIME to slide and also to REMAIN balanced on JUST your left foot at the line. You should have your balance leg (right one) lower to the floor (preferably with your shoe touching the floor) and be able to hold that position,UNTIL, the ball drops off of the pin deck. Slow down, and keep your elbow in closer to your body as well. You should be able to feel your arm brush by your side on the way up in your swing AND on the way down. Having your foot pointed straight or even a little left is a good thing. That'll keep you shoulders in a good position. Also, try changing pages on the Dexters to get more slide out of the shoes. I use a #10 the smoothest.

    Try these and let us know how it works for you. Shoot another video so we can see the improvement. Oh, and by the way, ask the "double clutch guy" what the hell he's talking about !! LOL
