Thread: Getting a new ball, but not sure what 2 get

Default Getting a new ball, but not sure what 2 get

It's time for a new ball, so I'm debating what to get. As of now I only play on house patterns, I would say medium oil. A local pro shop guy told me to stick to mid to mid/low range balls. I don't use my thumb, so I rev the ball a lot. He explained how if I used a high end ball it wouldn't store up energy that well, and hit soft. So I started looking at balls, and I'm trying to decide on one. I was thinking a Fire Road, or a Misfit. Anyone using the and has feedback they can give would be cool.

The Reckless is a good choice,
    I'm a 2 finger bowler as well,
and I tried out the Misfit,
I didn't like how it worked for me, the ball was going in weak. Do you like to play out and back?
For a little less hook potential, I would go for the Too Reckless,
    depends on what you want.

I have and use the Misfit. I have yet to throw a Fire Road. Sam is also left handed and doesn't have to deal with as significant a break down of oil as most right handers. That being said, I agree with your pro. Do you bowl at all in the dark with the black lights? The Misfit glows under the black light. The Fire Road comes with a scent. Glowing wins!!!!! lol
How about your speed and rev rate?

Speed is around 17mph. Rev rate not sure, never had it mesured, but a local bowler who seems to know a lot told me it is more than likley over 500, maybe even 600. I've seen the Misfit under black lights, it looks crazy. I don't do a lot of black light bowling so that doesn't matter to me. I also don't like a bowling ball that smells like fruit, but I am a big fan of Storm products. A buddy if mine just got a fire road, I may try it out this week if he lets me.

I used a misfit last night. I thought it was hooking fine. It was on a freshly oiled THS. What about a versa-max?

a ball that you sho0uld look at is the DV8 too reckless drilling with pin above fingers for length my brother is a 2 handed bowler and he throws abit slower then you hes trying to get his accuracy soo he slowed down and on fresh oil this balls moves great me because i got alot of rev and speed i use it for when im bowling on med-dry lanes cause i have taking abit out of my revs and its hitting much harder.

soo take a looka t the too reckless or maby even the frantic or fringe

I have a friend who bowls 2finger/no thumb with the fire road. It's OOB and drilled normal and the ball reads early. He probably doesn't bowl as fast as you though. Anyways, the ball does store up energy and the pins always explode when he doesn't gutter. Looks to have a good consistent roll.

It's too bad I was busy last weekend, my local house had a demonstration day with the Ebonite brands. Not that I would buy one, but at least I could have tried some stuff. Also missed a summer expo, and that one would have been great. It had reps, and pros from Storm, Hammer, DV8, Track, and I think more. It was Fagan, O'Neil, Mika, Machuga, CDB, and I think others I am forgetting. I guess I have to settle for trying my buddies Fire Road. I do have a friend with a Too Reckless. I'll give him a call and see if he'll let me throw it. Probably won't learn a lot, neither of the balls are drilled for me, so it may be hard to tell.

At that speed with at least 400 revs the Misfit would work well. The Reckless and Too Reckless will probably be too strong on a THS.

I tried the Fire Road yesterday. It was nice. It didn't hook a lot, but it was predictable. It was drilled specifically for a no thumb release too, so it was probably a good indicator. Didn't try the Misfit, that one is drilled for a conventional bowler, with a much slower rev rate, so it may be a waste to try it. I may get the FR, then maybe the Too Reckless for when I need a little more ball.
