Default Birth of the animal patterns

Does anybody know when they started using the animal oil patterens maybe even the first TV tourny they showed up on? I can't be entirely sure but i think it was in the 90's cause i rember that line of balls that came out thats was named after the patterns they were best suited for. Also what where they calling oil pattterns before kegel came up with all their names they have? Where patterns similar to the animals patterns but to make it more intresting they just gave them an animal name?

The animal pattern names came around about 2003-2004 I belive. The Animal balls were put out by Elite around 2005

Most times patterns had names based on the tournaments they were used in.

The animal pattern program was introduced by the PBA to provide the bowling public with a method to easily differentiate between the variety of lane conditioning challenges professional bowlers face.

    Before that they were PBA PATTERN A - 37 Feet ,PBA PATTERN B - 43 Feet ,PBA PATTERN C - 39 Feet ,PBA PATTERN D - 41 Feet ,PBA PATTERN E - 35 Feet

Ok then, one more question. What makes Kegel so special? I realize that they have obvisouly put a lot of R and D work into there oil machines and oil patternes in general but i know they are not the only company that makes oil machines. Do companies like Brunswick and AMF sell oil machines that can put down Kegel patterns, which have gotten so populary, or do they have to come up with there own patterns?

What makes Kegel so special? Well, they put a lot of R and D work into their oil machines and oil patterns and kind of set the standard for how it's done.

Do companies like Brunswick sell oil machines that can put down Kegel patterns, that have gotten so populary, or do they have to come up with there own patterns?
I can't say for a fact that every machine can put down every pattern. But the machines like the Authority 22 Lane Machine by Brunswick that can be programed , can put down most patterns.

I believe Kegel sends tapes of the patterns to Brunswick then Brunswick converts them to their machines. Plus The way the Brunswick machine oils the lanes is a little different than the Kegel machines and it's said the patterns play just a little different. Also The A22 does not change speeds, or oil in reverse like Kegel machines.

And Kegel customer service is one of the best.
