usually when i want more speed I stand further back a little.. i use my 4 steps as a push away speed for my arm to release the ball.. not sure how to say it though....
Standing on the far back set of dots has reeeally screwed me up. It didn't dawn on me until late tonight that it completely changes the angle played. But when I go back to the close set of dots I now feel very constricted. I am all over the place. Speed still low, can't release right, grrr...

It should be pretty simple to figure out the change in angle, or rather where you should stand to keep the same angle. Suppose your target is the 2nd arrow and you release the ball over the 15th board. NOTE: this is probably not the board that you stand on at the start of your approach. Since the arrows are 15' down lane, the ball is moving out one board for every 3' it goes down the lane. The dots on the approach are about 3' apart, so where ever you were standing at the close dots, you need to move one board in when you start at the far back set. Dick Ritger's system explains this very clearly, even accounting for your feet drifting.
Just remember you can isolate some parts of your approach, like the release, and practice them until they become second nature. Then when you make a change like moving back, it is not going to screw up every thing

Ok, why the move back ? Was it because you were leaving ten pins and how far back did you go? If you make a move backwards (i.e.; and shoot the same spots it shouldn't have any effect on your angles. All you're doing, or should be doing is lengthening a couple of your steps. Is it making you feel like you're running, taking giant steps or what's happening. Lets try and fix this for you. I'll be on line all weekend, except for a few hours tomorrow when I'm coaching the kids.

It's because my speed is so slow. I have had an extremely hard time getting ball speed. I don't get why it's so easy for others.
I've tried running.. I've tried slow first step or so and then run the next steps.. I've tried slow.. I've even tried throwing the ball.
I need to practice and record it soon.
One thing that isn't talked about often but has a huge affect on ball speed it; being fluid. Most of us aren't very fluid but the ones who are get great speed with no effort. Like most things in bowling, the harder you try to do something, the less of that something you get.

How high is the ball when you start ? Waist level, higher or lower ? Lowering should get the ball into a higher back swing and help increase the ball speed somewhat.
If you have a video camera or know someone that does, & they would be willing to spend an hour with you to get some shots it'd really be helpful for us to actually see what's going on. Trying to visualize through the use of words is pretty tough. The other possibility is to ask one of the higher average bowlers at your home center for advice, or the pro at the local proshop. Most will usually be more than willing to help you out. If theres no one available to ask for help try the video and upload it.
