Neither above nor below the line, parallel with the fingers. Or could that just be something unique to me?

Nothing wrong with that layout, one of my bowling balls has a layout similar to that.

If that's what works for you, then there's nothing wrong with that at all! On my current ball, the pin is right in the middle of my hand because I had no idea what I was doing when I had it drilled. Now that I know better, I'll be having the Pro Shop measure my PAP to make sure the pin placement is ideal for me.

    In terms of layout no.

The only thing is how close the pin is to the hole. The closer the pin is to a hole, the more of a chance a crack can form from the hole to the pin.

Most companies say not to place the pin closer than 1" to the hole. Do to possible cracking.

Even the same specs of a layout can look different on different people's balls. Why? Because everything is based off of the individual bowler's PAP. So if yours is 5" over and mine is 4" over and 1/4" down that would change the look of the layout visually on the ball but the reaction would be similar given the same style and release of bowler.

Ok I feel better but one of my ball has the pin around 1/2" from the ring finger :/

If they crack, they crack. Nothing you can do about it either way so stop worrying over what you can't change (unless the ball is new). Oh, just because other people's are close doesn't make them correct either. What if the same misinformed driller did all those balls?
