Thread: New ball consideration, opinions wanted.

  1. #1

Default New ball consideration, opinions wanted.

Been working some overtime, just bought a new Tropical Breeze for my Wife's bday at the end of November and kind of have an itch to order something myself.

My bag consists of a Storm Reign Supreme, Hammer Arson and Black/Purple Tropical Heat.

What are you opinions on adding to that? I bowl on natural wood with med-heavy oil and am lefty so I don't deal with huge transitions like the ol righties do.

I'd like a Storm and am thinking either Lucid, IQ Tour, Crossroad or Modern Marvel in no particular order.

Stroker with med/fast speed, med revs, in the middle track.

Any advice or opinions would be helpful

    Chris

I think that if you are looking for a ball that is not HRR-class agressive, I would think of a Fire Road. It is getting great reviews. I love my Defiant...but this is highly aggessive.

I would say Crossroads! The Arson is Heavy oil,Reign is Medium-Medium Heavy oil,Tropical Heat is Light-Medium oil,if I recall the specs. Crossroads is Middle of road type ball and should fit in with your current arsenal.

Modern Marvel or Lucid. Being as you bowl on wood i would lean towards the Modern Marvel due to the increased friction wood provides. Being a Hybrid gives you the best of both worlds. I have drilled my son two of the MM. One pin up and just drilled him a pin down today
Still love the game but had to quit because of my left leg amptation

The Modern Marvel gets my vote. Natural wood and being a lefty the hybrid should clear the heads longer.

I can't say what you should get, but I can tell you what not to get. Despite the prior suggestion, do not get a Fire Road. I have one, and I can't use it, its terrible. If I miss right by one board, it just keeps going, and will hit just the 6-10. No recovery at all. I put it back in my bag, pulled out my Freeze and never looked back. Freeze is a little beat, and I was hoping the Fire Road would replace it, but no way. I'm not the only one with issues. The ball was given to me by a friend with a similar style, because it did the same thing to him. He also has a friend he bowls with in another league, that guy has a Fire Road too, and he has the same issues. Disappointing, but at least I didn't pay anything for it.

    Interesting about the fireroad.
After reading reviews and watching videos I think I'm going to order the Modern Marvel and ask about having it drilled with the pin above my ring finger. Got a good proshop guy that moved into my center. He uses the best finger inserts I've ever bowled with, they're not turbo or vise and have a nice gummy feel to them, they're exceptional.
