How to get new ball drilled correctly

When getting a new ball how does a pro-shop know how to drill it for you unless he sees you throw a ball? Can it be drilled without seeing you throw a ball
by asking you a few questions? There are a lot of things to be considered when getting one drilled. Things like what your PAP is, pin above or below fingers,
if your ball needs to be symetric or asymetric, mass bias and I think my head is starting to spin. Urethane or reactive resin. What is a guy to do. Plus you have finger hole pitch. I never thought that getting a new ball and getting it drilled correctly for me would be so puzzling for me. Can anyone give me some pointers on how to go about this correctly. A pro shop I am sure cannot drill a ball for you by just looking at you and guessing what you need. I am 65 years old and a lefty. I have been bowling in my current house league for 25 years using a Raw Hammer Anger fingertip ball of 15lbs. HELP!

A good pro shop would go watch you bowl some.

There are a lot of things to be considered when getting one drilled. Things like what your PAP is,

As far as PAP since you have a ball you've been using they can take the PAP from it.

For this you would discuss with him, just what you want the ball for and to do. To come up with the best ball type and layout.

Here your talking fit, since you have a fingertip ball and if your happy with the fit . He can just copy it from your old ball. If you want to make changes, then you have to work with him on adjusting the fit.

The best tip is to research the Pro shop first, talk to people there who have used it and how they feel. Ask him the same questions you asked here and any more your can think of. Have in mind what your looking for in a new ball and what you want it to do.

Also keep in mind, a pro shop is a service like any other. You're paying them to provide you with what you think is an acceptable level of service. Ask questions and don't leave until you are satisfied with the results. Once you both are on the same page visits later will be a ton easier.

This is a church league also. We set it up to bowl every other Saturday. When I started in 1987 I was 40 years old. I was really hooked and use to practice every week. I was one of the men in the league with the highest average. My highest was 189. My highest series scratch was a 710. One of the guys on our league came up to me and said jokeingly our church league is thinking about throwing me off the league because they think I am a ringer. I would have all three games over 200 some nights.
I had one game with 9 strikes in a row and spared out darn it. Another game I had all strikes but a spare in the 8th frame. The ball dropped off my fingers on that one. A bigger DANG! Now I am having osteoarthritis problems in my hips and knees at 65 years old. My average is lower but I am still fighting to stay in the game. I like it too much to quit. I have to start taking Advils today because we bowl tonight. So I should be good by 6PM tonight.

We've had at least one bowler who competed into his mid nineties, and currently have at least three in their 80s. In fact one of them was on last years championship team.

I'm in the same boat. How are the supposed to watch you bowl if its your first ball your getting? I have a too heavy 20+ year old ball that possibly doesn't fit me well either. So I guess you have to trust them.

Basically if it's a first time ball, you would have to use a generic PAP location (Example:5” by 1/2” up)
