Thread: consistency

    Default consistency

I bowled better this week keeping in mind the advice that was given.(Thanks) I bowled 195 the first game and then went down. I know the lanes change and to move accordingly, but I need more advice.

Glad to hear you have started to improve, consistency is is a tricky topic but at the same time the be all and end all of bowling, if one wants to be a very good bowler they need consistency, you need to be able to do that exact same thing every time you get up on the approach. to improve your consistency i would recommend giving yourself a routine to do every time you get up on the approach, Ex: Pick up ball, line up your feet, put hand in the ball, look at target, bend knees, then start your approach.

If you want, you could record a video of yourself bowling and post it for us to watch, this would give us a better idea of how you bowl, that way we could give more personalized tips.

Other than that, just keep at it! practice makes perfect.

Well if the other advice helped and you know the lanes change and to move accordingly and without something specific to address. The best advice is to "PRACTICE", because consistency comes with practice.

For me, the key to consistency is comfort. I'm a stroker, so I prefer to bowl nice and easy, with not a lot of revs or speed. It's much easier to reproduce that same shot when it is almost effortless, versus trying to spin the ball up like a tornado and slam it as hard as I can into the pins. When I try to rev it up like you see some of the pros on TV doing, I feel like I'm fighting the ball instead of letting it do the work as it was designed to do. Today's modern balls don't need to be revved up like a drag racer doing a burnout to achieve a nice, controllable hook. I proved that last night with my DV8 Marauder (which I absolutely LOVE - go get one of these things, you'll be glad you did). Plus, a nice easy throw is something I can do all night long versus the high revving coast-to-coast hook monsters who tire out after the first game and are all over the place with their accuracy. Once I get my accuracy and consistency up, I'll eat those types of players for lunch.

It's a really vague question saying you need more advice. What was given and what area exactly are you looking for advice in? If you know to move accordingly why did your scores go down? Were you having issues targeting after moving or were the moves not allowing the ball to hit the pocket flush?

The only way to get consistent in anything is to practice practice practice practice. No way to get around it. In my case alone I stopped practicing and my games are all over the place and sometimes I miss easy spares which make me clench my jaws. If you want to be good you have to put in the time. PRACTICE.

Practice is obvious. The issue is having a purposeful practice. Practicing bad habits does absolutely no good.

you should record yourself bowling and see which areas you are inconsistent in.
