Thread: So I got the first 8....

Default So I got the first 8....

My wife was having her bowling ball re-drilled, and we went to pick it up earlier today. While we were there, we decided to go ahead and bowl a few games. Without any warmup at all, I proceed to roll 8 strikes in a row. By The time I started the 9th frame, a small crowd had gathered and I was quite nervous. As I was lining up my shot for the 9th frame, the thought crossed my mind that I might should move a board deeper but I decided to stay put. Well, the ball read the lane a little too well and went through the nose leaving a split (that I almost picked up). I could almost hear the whole building let out a collective sigh. I finished the 10th with an XX8 for a 261. I guess it will just take some more experience to keep my nerves in check in such a high pressure situation. Anyway, it was some of the most fun that I've had at the lanes recently and just wanted to share!

Aren't you the same guy that was struggling? Congratulations Nick! Nice to see good games from you again. I don't get the nerves though. Would that have made your life or your family's life any different? A perfect game is a great accomplishment but not life altering. I don't know, maybe I've just been in too many high pressure situations.
My first 300 I turned around after the second strike of the tenth. I looked at the crowd and asked, "How many of you are hoping I blow this and how many hope I get it? Those that want me to blow it are going to be disappointed".
Even as a kid, when I pitched I would rather hear cheers for the batters than for me. It makes me rise to the occasion to prove I can do it against what others think. Even if they only think it in my mind.

I was struggling like crazy about a week ago, and it took a while but I worked through it. Looking back on it now I realize the nerves weren't warranted, but I wanted it really bad.... really really bad. I had already finished the game in my head. I do like the mindset you adopted for the end of your first 300. I'm going to try to emulate that the next time I get deep into a perfect game... which will hopefully be sooner rather than later.

I had the front 9 two week ago. 10th frame I just missed the ball on the bottom of my swing. Almost lost the ball, threw it 4 boards right of target and almost threw a strike anyway. After I threw the strike in the 9th, there was a crowd of about 20 people. I laughed and said "what's everyone staring at?"

Sanctioned zero 300s, two 800s. Non-sanctioned (our summer leagues aren't sanctioned) six 300s, five 800s. I don't keep track of practices. Worst part, they were all thrown with air fresheners but one 800 lol

What is air freshners slang for here? Storm cause of the scent? And its bad because of your dissatisfaction with their customer service if i rember correctly. Kind of ironic to when you consider how well you bowled with their equipment but how much you hate them.

I threw 10 in a row when i was at the stadium the other week and throw 4 more at the beginning of the next game so it counts in my head.

And billf I have to say I am extremly impressed the you bowled so many 800s and 300s! I have been a 200+ avg bowler for at least 9+ years and only have two 300s under my belt and the closest i have gotten to an 800 was a 768.
