For the same reason you don't put your index finger in the hole. It won't hook. Actually, if you turn that pic slightly then the ring finger is longer than the middle finger. All then that was effectively done is alter the layout.

    This is from another post

    (referring to a offset thumb)
Depending on how you look at the ball the thumbhole position can look different.

    Here's example (thanks to striketheory).
"This is the same ball. You will notice in one pic, the thumb appears to be offset (under the middle finger). It only appears that way from the optical illusion created when you line up the fingers to a basic T shape."

The bottom picture shows how the ball was actually drilled, and the appearance of the offset is from the variance in span.

Right handed Stroker, high track ,about 13 degree axis tilt. PAP is located 5 9/16” over 1 3/4” up.Speed ave. about 14 mph at the pins. Medium rev’s.High Game 300, High series 798

I can't see the pics. For some reason bowlingchat.net has some insane questions before you can register

Heres the two pics side by side

In your red ball picture, all that moving the thumbhole over like that has done is increase the ringfinger span. (It also has the effect of changing finger pitch)

If the span is measured right in the first place , your thumb is all ready in a natural position.

By natural I believe he means so your hand, with thumb extended, makes more of an "L" position instead of spread further back.
