Thread: Getting ready for the Hurricane

Default Getting ready for the Hurricane

Well it looks like Hurricane Sandy is on it's way here. Spent some time yesterday, and today getting my house ready. I took all of the outdoor furniture inside, tied down the garbage cans, and got rid of all the crap my mother had in my yard for 3 weeks worth of yard sales. Went to the store to get some food, and liquor. So I should be good for a few days! Sandy, have mercy on us!

Yea, I did all my hurricane prep yesterday. Everything is put away. Generator is gassed up and ready. Food, water. Videos and pictures of the beach.

    Bring it on, *****!

So now I'm just sitting around bored, waiting, drinking... ...a lot. I'm going to take a few days off of work, watch the storm roll in. I may have a few friends over, as they need to evacuate. I'm a little worried about the bowling alley I bowl my league at. It is very close to the water. In fact, my buddy who is evacuating, he lives around the block from the bowling alley.

People around here are getting all bent out of shape. Sure it's been raining on and off for the past 3 days, but I honestly don't expect anything bad to happen. Maybe some downed trees if we get major winds, but the media is putting everyone in a panic. If it gets bad though I have a few cases of MRE's in the basement and a propane heater i'll survive.

Its gotten a lot windier the last hour but still not much rain. Lights have flickered but we still have phone and electricity. So does my mom who a bit closer to the storm center and whose house is much more prone to power outages.

It hasn't hit land yet, however AC has lost part of its boardwalk. The bay and sea are now one. Cape May and Wildwood are pretty much flooded. At my house in central NJ, I have 2 trees down, and I'm expecting a few others judging by the wind. And it's going to get worse. It will continue the job started by Irene, and the freak snowstorm in my yard.

Sorry to hear you are getting hit, hopefully everything calms down and you don't have to much damage when it's all said and done.

We got off lucky. Power went out last night around 8:30, just came back on a little while ago. A branch hit the corner of the roof and took a piece of shingle off and bent the end of the gutter.
