Thread: Getting ready for the Hurricane

Lost power around 6:30 last night, still not on. Estimates are the soonest we get power back is Thursday, but more than likely we will be down for 7-10 days or more. Staying with a friend who's power didn't go out for a while. 90% of Long Island is without power. Frustrating cause from my porch I can see houses on the next block with power, and we could be without power until next Friday. Lots of trees and power lines down in our area. We had wind gusts about 90 mph, some rain. Just nasty, now were dealing with the aftermath. I'm losing a lot of business and lots of money too. Just sucks.

That sucks to hear, but the most important thing is that you weren't hurt. just take it one day at a time, the worst is over.

Power is back on, back home now. Gonna try to get back to normal this weekend, you know, aside from the gas shortage. I even got to bowl last night, my league said screw it, lets bowl!

I live within easy walking distance of my local alley. We only lost power for 20 hours, the alley didn't get back on line until today!

We got our electricity back Wednesday night but many in our area (NE PA) are still out. Just the same, there was much greater damage on the NJ Eastern Shores. The bowling alley nearby (Blue Valley Lanes in Wind Gap, PA) is up and running. After a week off from bowling I am "champin' at the bit" and ready to go.

Bowling was good therapy for us. It was the first regular thing most of us did since the storm. Most of the week, one of teammates has been replacing the roof that blew off of his parents house. Got word that another friend lost everything, house, cars, thankfully he and his family are ok. There is a gas station 3 houses down from my house. I couldn't even get in my driveway last night cause they had gas, and the line went for at least a mile. No line now, because no gas. They are getting a delivery today, so I will be getting on the line when I see it form.

I decided not to panic, and I didn't get on the line for gas outside my house yesterday. Especially cause the line was forming because of rumors that gas was coming. However, despite my insisting that getting on that line was stupid, my chick did just that. We swapped a few times so she could use the bathroom, and make lunch. She was in front of my house the whole time, on the line waitng. 5 hours, and what happened? The gas station owner came out and said "why is everyone lined up, there's no gas coming." 2 different attendants at the station said gas was coming. It's a dirty trick, they get you to line up, so you come in, get coffee, get a soda, a snack, whatever. I had half a tank, so I was going to wait until mid week before I needed to find a gas station. I got a text from a neighbor at 4:00am, saying a gas staion 3 miles away got a delivery, and there isn't a long line. So I went, there wasn't a small line, there was NO LINE!!! I pulled right up to a pump, filled up, and filled a coulpe gas cans. So I'm good unitl the end of the week, probably next weekend. Got a scare from the power company, about 2 hours ago, after being on for two days, our power went back out. It was only out for 15 minutes. They must have had to turn it off while they fixed someone elses power.
