Raging on 10 Pins

Last night, I saw an entire team of 5 grown men rage after 10 pin leaves. "I hit the F***ing pocket!" I said once to a guy to calm down and make the spare. I don't get why people rage so hard but don't do anything about it. The best thing one of these hot heads could do would be to research why people leave 10 pins and learn to recognize and fix the problems. It's a lot like politics. We find the problem, we complain about the problem, and we never do anything about it! From my cool mannered demeanor, should I just sit down and watch them rage and open or should I continue to say something? It's a league that competes against each other yes but I just don't like people frustrated to the point that they're discussing not bowling next year/next week/ever again.

Also, 7 pins do not bother me as much when I leave them because I am about 95% spare on 7 pins. Not because I'm lucky, not because I have a plastic ball, but because I practiced countless hours of shooting 7 pins so I never miss them again.

Seriously though, it always seems like my best looking and best sounding shots of the night leave the 10 pin. Then my next frame is a brooklyn shot where all the pins fall like dominoes. The main thing I have to do when I leave a 10 pin is forget about my first shot. When I'm thinking about it even a little bit, I end up missing that darn 10 pin.

10 pins (or 7 pins for leftys) can be maddening but you have to make the adjustment to start carrying.
Last Wednesday I opened with a 4 bagger then left three 7 pins in a row (lefty). Took three to realize I need to do something so I moved left just a bit and struck out for a 257.

I love guys who rage over not striking on pocket shots and then miss the spare because their pissed. Our team won so many games over the summer because these 200+ avg bowlers kept getting angry over their lack of carry. Speed kills! These guy's were throwing about 20-25mph and while they were hitting pocket,they caused the pins to fly all over the place thus by not carrying consistant strikes.

i have seen that before too i use to do it but am know calm now and about 2-3 weeks ago when i first got my track 716T i avoided the 10pin all game long until the last game in the 6th,7th,8th,9th and 10th frame i was like holly crap know the 10pin hates me and guess this all frames before that where strikes only 1 shot was miss pocket and was dead on head pin.

and only ended up hitting 1 out of all of those 10pins.

I would say yes you should continue to say something to them, but perhaps wait until league is over and offer a friendly piece of advice. During scoring, many people are too close minded to listen to anyone else. Plus you get to just sit back and enjoy the show for a bit, lol.

I have had nights where I am leaving 7 pins as if they were glued to the floor. Sad part is the hit looked like a definite strike. My favorite thing to say when I leave one is
you have got to be kidding. If I leave enough of them I say mother father while turning around and looking at the floor so no one can lip read me. Church league you know. If I am mad enough sometimes it makes me really focused to hit the darn thing. I am a lefty, you know the good side.

For me it's frustrating simply because a strike can add 20 more points to that frame's score whereas a spare only adds 10. Sure I can shoot all spares and max out at 200+, but to get above that, I gotta get some strikes! What's worse is when I miss the spare and instead of strikes or spares I see 9-, 9-,9- when every one of those blasted 9-'s could have (and doggone it should have) been strikes if it weren't for that damned 7 I left with my strike ball (I'm a lefty so for me, the 7 is my "10 pin"). I know it's not the pin's fault that I missed the pocket and hit light, but that doesn't make it any less frustrating, especially when all that separated me from that strike was missing my mark by one flippin' board. I don't "rage" about it, but it does get aggravating when I've left my 4th or 5th 7 pin in a row and feel like a guy who's just been mugged 5 times. As much as I tell myself not to let it get to me, it also affects my ability to pick it up - darn it, that was a good strike ball and I shouldn't have to be up here throwing my spare ball at that 7! I've had many games that would have easily gone over 220 but instead I maxed out at 180 because of leaving those damn 7's. I had a game last week as a matter of fact where I left so many 7's that when finally God had mercy on me and I got the flippin' strike I yelled out "FINALLY! THANK YOU!!" and everyone in the center turned to look at what I was carrying on about. Thankfully I wasn't saying the numerous bad words I was thinking at the time... That game would have easily been over 240 if I had gotten all those strikes I missed.

So in summary, I can relate, even if the behavior is rather childish and dumb. It can get downright frustrating at times.

We have a couple of those people on our Wednesday night league. I love bowling against them cause I just sit there and rub it in. They leave a ten and start yelling I just look at them and say "damn that was such a nice pocket shot". It usually gets them so mad they lose it for the rest of the night and we get extra wins. If they are really going overboard with it I start yelling like them when I get a strike. You should see the looks you get when you start complaining about strikes "WTH 10 in the pit again this is such BS".

Our league is small and everyone is super friendly though, so I can get away with it. Not knowing how your league is I wouldn't recommend doing it.

Heh, good times. I leave so many 7's that if I do it on leagues I'll probably just shake my head and say "yep, that figures, here we go, story of my life". Come to think of it, that's usually what I say now - that's how often I do it.
