Nice to hear that inspired you to roll a 764.
Thanks for the on the scene impressions from the Round of 32 of the Ultimate Scoring Championship.
On Tuesday morning, I went down to Taylor Lanes to check out the round of 32 action for the Ultimate Scoring Championship. I saw a lot of great matches. WRW vs. Rash was one, Rash took him out 4-1, and was trash talking. When it was not Rash's turn, he was reading a USA today lent to him by Tracy Weber. I felt bad for Danny Wiseman, he was up against Lindquest (who I believe won at tour trials this past summer), and was leading 3-2, and let it go to a 7th match. Danny leaves the stone 7, and missed it. Lindquest opened with a 7 bagger to close him out. Couch and Ritche Allen went 7 as well, with Allen prevailing that one..it was close until Couch left a 4-7-10 in the 9th. Patrick Allen and Mike Edwards went 7....PA was up 3-0 and Edwards came all the way back to win!. Pete Weber was up 3-0 and let his opponnent in and lost the next 2 before finally putting him away. In game 4 and 5, there was one horrible shot in each that PDW made resulting in a split to give those games away, each occured in the 8th or 9th frame...he was very pissed and vocal. Saw lots of 300s, there were 11 of them...the ones I saw were Bohn Robert Smith, Mike Wolf, Patrick Allen. Bohn and Haugen Jr. had a high scoring match, one of their games were 289-279...I think Bohn was 4-1...both were over 800 for their first 3 games. I couldn't stay for the afternoon session, as I had to get back to work. It was very fun to watch, wasn't very crowded, so I was able to move from lane to lane to watch my favorite bowlers. I spoke with Wiseman and Haugen Jr. before the matches when they were practicing. Wiseman was teased by Couch and Rash for still having fans (me)! The Rash/WRW match attracted the biggest crowd. Parker Bohn/Haugen had people watching. I enjoyed watching PDW, and a few lanes over was Billy O, who was very fun to watch. There was 10 minutes of practice on each pair, and when that was over, before the first shot, it was so quiet, it was errie. All and all, for my first time at a PBA event watching the action, it was fun. It was very difficult to sit there, and not being able to be part of the action....I really wish I was bowling...that would have been the ultimate.
Also, I spoke to Wiseman and Haugen Jr. Once the matches started, everyone was serious. Once the matches were over, each bowler disappeared into the paddock. During warmups Rash, Wiseman, Couch, etc were bowling...lots of swearing and teasing going on. I couldn't corner Pete into an autograph, and didn't really have a chance to speak with him. Prior to his match, the Storm Ball rep was there to take care of whatever he needed. Tracy just hung around the same spot the entire match...every now and then, PDW would bi_tch at her about the lanes after he made a poor shot.
Anyway, watching all this fired me up for my league...shot 258-248-258 for 764!
