Default Are all bowling balls smooth?

My high end balls are very smooth despite being sanded. They just look matte

Well they are all smooth in that they don't feel like a piece of sandpaper.

Smooth to the touch, yes. If you put it under a microscope I'm sure things would look a lot different.

Yes, but not all bowlers are.

Some years ago I had a Columbia Orange dot that was not smooth. It had a stippled kind of finish that was supposed to make it good on heavy oil. Actually, it was probably the worse ball I have ever owned.

I think this has been answered well already, all bowling balls should be relatively smooth, to human touch the difference between 800 and 4000 finish can be nearly unnoticeable, but if you took a microscope to the ball you would see an obvious difference. no, a bowlingball should never feel "rough" it would end up scratching the hell out of the bowling lane.

My old Brunswick ball isn't smooth, there's all sorts of gouges and nicks and scrapes in that bad boy, lol... It's been through some busted ball returns a few too many times methinks.
