 What would happen? - layouts

What would happen if you took a ball that was suppose to hook alot, and you gave it a layout to make it go strait. Or if you took a ball that would go strait and put a hook layout on it? I heard that this would really screw up an asymmetrical core ball. Anyhow, how do you chose a layout for a ball? I mean, the core and the cover stock make up most of the ball reaction. Is it like hit or miss?

The manufactuare(sp)includes drilling layouts with all asymmetrcal balls(Use same drilling layouts for symmetrcal balls). Their are 3 layouts-Heavy oil,Meduim oil & light oil. You choose a layout based on what lane conditions your bowling on and what you want the ball to do(ie-Go long & flip,go long & arc, roll early, etc). You also should bring a ball in(if you have 1) or sometimes the pro guy will watch you bowl and try to give you a drilling based on how he sees you bowl.
You can in theroy take a ball that has a massive hook and drill it negative, but, the ball will be only usable that specific purpose and most likely nothing else. Same with a plastic spare ball which can be made to hook, but, not much unless your a cranker. You are better of getting a plastic ball if all you want it to do is go straight!
Bottom line is-Don't take a $200 ball and drill it to go straight, because thats not what it's purpose is.
