sensors in balls
With Race cars that can sense the slightest change in the transmission and even Nike Shoes that give you all the info on how you run. When do you think they will make a sensor for bowling balls that can tell you your speed, revs, ect...
The way cores are made we know where the fingers holes will be almost all the time. They can easy put a sensor with micro port on the other side of where holes would be drilled. That port would be like a cell phone port that can send data and charge too or even just a smaller hole for power and the sensor can be a bluethooth/wifi device. If that not good since we have grips now that are interchangeable, we can place sensors under or in these kind of grips. for quick access.
Do you think that could happen the way things in technology are going?
They don't need sensors in the bowling ball since they have C.A.T.S. (Computer Automated Tracking System) that can tell ball speed, trajectory, rev rate, path and everything on the lane.
With the bowling industry as it is, you can't get too much more expensive with the equipment. It is not as popular as the main sports so you won't see as much technology and fervor going into every aspect of the game like you do with the major sports of the country.

I'd be happy with a bowling ball that had the "Yes/No/Maybe/Answer Hazy/Signs point to no" etc magic eight ball gizmo in it. One of these days I'm going to buy a viz-a-ball 8 ball and one of these magic 8 balls and mount the "answer" viewer somewhere on the ball where it won't get too beat up. That would just be awesome.

it wouldn't be that hard, you would use an accelerometer to count rotations axis tilt etc, a timer that counts time from release to impact of pins.....
@UBowling: last time i checked C.A.T.S. is rather expensive.... a penny sized sensor with a tf card in it for data transfer would be a cool idea...

From what i seen the C.A.T.S cost a ton and requires a lot of equipment. I kinda was thinking of a device that anyone can buy and use it at any ally, then just hook up to there computer at home
It would be funny if it could talk. Like if the ball struck it would shout something like "Yeah Baby!" or talk on it's way back through the ball return.
I can see someone developing a test ball with all the bells and whistles, but I can imagine the abuse the equipment takes striking so many pins, etc. So wear and tear in regular use would render the idea cost ineffective. kind of like making reusable crash dummies to test large explosives....
I live by three simples rules:
1. Don't ever ask about my business
2. Never discuss business at the table
3. Don't ever side with anyone against the family
I think something like that would be cool. I don't think a ball will a small chip in it would cost that much. The Nike sneakers with a chip in them don't cost much more than a regular pair of sneakers. With that said, I can't see it ever being legalized by the USBC. Even though its just telemetry, and it's not like the ball is remote controlled, but I think it would be looked at as having an unfair advantage.
