Default Guy from Alaska..."hooked" by the bowling bug!

Hey guys new guy here all the way from Alaska.

Well what happened to me was that a boss of mine at work were asking me to bowl with them one night on Friday. At first, I was saying, "no, because I don't really bowl..." but after a couple weeks later, I found out she got a couple of my friends to go so I decided to go as well. I thought to myself, "Hey! Bowling's pretty fun.... and besides...none of my friends bowl too so it won't matter much if I sucked or not haha"

Well there we were on Friday morning thinking it was just going to be a "for fun, nothing serious, hanging out kind of way" then BAM! We get asked to join the league..it's a handicap league so we were like "ahh how bad could it be?? besides it's winter so..might as well get into some sports!"

Long story short, we ALL got hooked into bowling...I've been practicing as much as 5 times a week just to get better! Especially since I started out as the worst scorer of the team with an average of 92 about a month and a half ago... LOL....

And now I'm averaging around 135!

Also...I learned how to hook a ball about 3 weeks ago... slight curve nothing big... but since thursday, I learned how to change the way the ball rotates (the ball spins sideways instead of a more forward roll) to create a more arch reaction. I also bowled a 193, a 176, and a 171 the next day so I'm pumped!

And that's what led me here

Are you using a house ball? if so, its like night and day when you get your first fingertip ball that's fitted for you!

Welcome to the boards. I would imagine bowling would be huge in Alaska. First, its friggin cold out there, so u have to have something fun to do indoors. Second, its Alaska, what the bell else u gonna do up there. Seriously, one of the best bowlers.in the world is from Alaska, Sean Rash.

Thanks guys this really seems like a great forum!

As for the house ball question, i have an ebonite cyclone thats fitted for me. And youre right ever since i figured how to control it, my game went up 40 pins within the first two weeks and improving!

And about bowling being big around here, i can tell you this much... Almost everytime i go to the alley, its almost always FULL. Lol!

welcome to the forum. Nice improvement already and I'm sure more to come. Just think, you have a good chance to win the "most improved" award at the end of the season. They take your average after 21 games and subtract that from your ending average.
