Default How to put on finger and thumb tape

Properly taping seems to be a common area new bowlers do wrong.

Thanks Bill for posting both videos! I usually apply the tape just on the back of my thumb, but am going to try the front and the back of the thumb the next time I bowl. The roll of tape that I purchased reminds me of kinesiology tape, since it stretches/gives vertically, but is very rigid width wise.

It came to mind after talking with a local PBA player. He asked me to teach my clients how to put the tape on cause he sees people doing it wrong or not using it when they need to all the time. So I naturally thought it could also come in handy here. Turns out we both use to put the tape in our balls upside down. The rounded side faces the top of the ball to prevent rolling but looking at it uneducated, you would think it was shaped like a thumb and face the core. The first time this guy bowled in Las Vegas his fingers were bleeding. Wes Mallot saw the bloody fingertip grips and showed him how to put the tape on his fingers, after giving him a roll.
If you want to use it on your fingers, go up one size on the grips as a general rule.

I use the pre-cut tape that comes 4 to a card and use it on back of thumb. I tried the front, but,it cause the ball to drop off prematurely,so I just put it on back only.

I use the white textured thumb tape for inside thumb hole.

Most people don't think of tape for preventative measures but if you're going to bowl over 20 or so games a week, give it a try.

I used to use tape on my thumb, over the nail side, but it turned out it was needed only because the thumb hole was not drilled properly. I use a thumb insert or whatever it's called and have had zero problem in last year. Make sure the thumb hole is correctly drilled and you probably will not need it.
