Was that guy 6'4", skinny and balding? That sounds like a friend of mine that lives in Calumet City.
This was when I was using my first fingertip bowling ball. I was practicing with two of my friends and my thumb swelled up a little after bowling two games. My thumb started to hang up in the ball and it was effecting my release and causing me to pull the shot. So I thought that I would just swing harder to get my thumb to come out. Not a good idea. I went up to throw my first ball and guess what? SURPRISE! I had a 16lb Columbia yellow dot bowling ball coming straight at my face. A swollen sweaty thumb does not come out of the thumb hole easily. That thing was like two inches from my nose. My one friend was in shock and asked if I was alright. My other friend Greg couldn't stop laughing. He said you should have seen the look on your face when you turned around to come off the approach. I said yeah, that was pretty funny wasn't it sarcastically. That only happened to me one time in all the years I have been bowling. I had a teammate stick on his slide and he tried to keep himself from going over the foul line. He couldn't stop himself from going forward so he jumped over the foul line with both feet and when he hit the alley with both feet his legs flew out from under him and he landed on his back. His head bounced off of the alley and we ran out to make sure he was okay. He was thank goodness. I saw a woman once that was drinking with her husband while they were bowling on our league. She was tipsy and it showed on one shot. She threw her first ball and as it was going down the alley she was walking backwards while waving her arms to help her ball get a strike I guess. Well she hit the ball return and fell over it backwards into the approach of the alley next to her. Her husband showed great concern. He yelled from the table with their pitcher of beer way to go Rita. She got up laughing and wasn't hurt. Being relaxed from drinking probably helped her from getting hurt. So what happened to you or what have you seen that was similar to this?

Had a ball get stuck on my thumb that had me literally flying over foul line. On top of that,I had people yelling at me to relax my thumb and so I held the ball with just my thumb and it took 2 guys to pull it off. Had to change thumb tape and powder inside thumb hole. the heat, sweat caused a vaccum that held the thumb.

OK....a month or so ago on league night they (alley guys, maintenance..whatever they are called) were really working on the approach...I figured something had happened like a spill or sticky spot...I was very concerned that I was going to fall so I did a number of practice approaches (without a ball) and it seemed OK.
When the lanes opened for practice a buddy of mine who is also on my golf league (not on my team though) went up for his frist practice shot and promptly stuck and then face planted. I thought to myself that I was glad it wasn't me!! I went up next on the opposite lane and promptly stuck and face planted also. Seriously fell flat accross the foul line.
I think the worse thing that has happened to me was my slide foot landed on a potato chip crumb (kids bday party) and slid to the right instead of straight, so that led to me throwing the ball directly into my ankle. 15lb ball + 25mph = black and blue ankle and lots of swearing.
i was bowling in my socks to show my friend something and sliped and fell on my butt lol and almost fell down the lane

my old man has been used to bowling at the lanes we bowl league on and they are very good at buffing the approach. he slides a good 8 inches on his approach. well one year we were on vacation visiting some family in idaho and decided to go throw a few games. his first ball he starts fast and tried to slide, his foot stuck and he had to take an extra step to keep from falling. he went sliding down the lane on his feet still carrying quite a bit of speed. he slid about 15-20 feet down the lane and managed not to fall. i have never seen such a great display of balance. thank goodness for smartphones so i can remind him of it whenever i like.
Well i have an interesting tale for everyone, it all started Friday afternoon:
I was on my way to the pro shop after visiting my grandfather in the nursing home out of town, we were going to make it to the pro shop a hour before it closed, well things didn't work out. going down the highway we get a call from my sister, her friend had got into an accident and asked if we could go pick her up (my dad drives a tow truck) so that completely screwed my plan to get the marauder, so i called the pro shop to reschedule for Wednesday of next week.
so i went to league Friday night with my old ball a little annoyed that i didn't have the marauder yet and you won't believe what happened.... two frames into the first game i go to throw a 10 pin and.... my thumb got completely stuck in the ball, it ends up letting go launching the ball across into the next lane, which happened to be 5 pin...... so ya i had to go explain to the owner how i got a 10 pin ball stuck in the back of a 5 pin lane.... not going to live that down for awhile LOL
and that my friends is what happens when you don't make it to the pro shop to get your new ball LOL
