One word of advice: I used to bowl with the "two finger," method. When you get your ball, and you have it drilled, make sure you really talk to your driller about the thumb hole. Explain that you currently only use two fingers, and talk to them about why you only use two fingers. My pro shop professional was able to address some of my concerns and switched me to fingertips, and also position the thumb hole just slightly closer to my middle finger so it would release easier.

It took months for me to get back up to where my average was, but once I got used to the 3 hole technique I have never been more consistent. I'm the stubborn type, and I had a 170 average with my two finger system. I loved the hook I got out of it. I now carry a 185 average and it's STILL on the rise (I had been out of league bowling for a couple years, and I'm still improving as I'm getting back into the swing of things).

Make your transition easy. Go ahead and keep your two finger system. Just keep an open mind about learning to use all 3 fingers gradually and you'll be happy you did!

yea im very open to the 3 finger method as i made another thread about it and basically i was told that 3 finger will lead to better accuracy and consistency. The reason ive been doing 2 finger is because the ball i currently have is my dads ball, so its a left handed ball whereas im right handed thus the holes dont fit properly. I have an upcoming league that i will probably bowl 2 fingered but during practice i will be working on 3 finger as well as other mechanics like my approach and swing

I'm glad to hear that. I'm a firm believer that IT DOESN'T MATTER!!! Listen... If the difference between going to 3 fingers ruins the fun you have in the sport, then stay with 2 fingers. Don't hurt your ability to have fun and enjoy it. BUT, I'm one of those types that wants to be as good as possible, and using 3 fingers increases the point of contact and I believe it has made a HUGE difference in my game.

well i want to be better while still having fun. I dont take league super serious but i still like to do my part on the team to help with the win. There are some guys in the league that get mad if their strike isnt pretty which i think is stupid. I usually have a couple beers and just have some fun bowling.

    My second game this past Monday was funny (to me). It went like this 6/ X 9/ X X X X X X XXX=270
The ball was too strong and my thumb had swelled so it was sticking. I wasn't changing a thing until I missed. The only pocket shots were the 1st and 3rd frames. The rest were Brooklyn or plain garbage. My opponent was furious. I missed the first throw of game 3 and changed balls and thumb inserts and was creaming the pocket. I just looked at him and said, "See Dennis, I can hit the pocket when I want to but either way I will beat you again." That game was only a 265 (I think). Strikes are strikes, there are no bonuses for how good they look.

Thats funny. My teammates are novices like myself so we have a higher handicap than most teams and some of the better teams seriously get mad about it but were not in a competitive league, just a bunch of random fairly average bowlers. i was actually watching quite a bit of dick weber championship matches with the intention of seeing about how my old AMF Angle ball should hook and his strikes were never perfect either, he just had good precise throwing and that got the job done.
