I do a couple in the front for grip, and then use the back for size fitting/snugness.
I try to avoid using tape as much as possible. I tend to get my balls drilled small and work them out with a bevel knife to get a great fit. If I have to I will put 1 or 2 pieces of white tape in.

Never used tape in my life. Proper thumb plug drilling + the good fortune of not having hands that swell or change.
I have learnt from past tournament experience to have my thumb drilled big because it is alot easier to take tape out if my thumb does swell during large blocks of bowling, then it is to try and make a thumb hole bigger :P. I currently have 7 pieces of tape in all of my balls. Up until the last year I had never used or needed tape, but as i grow older my thumb had started to swell once in a while, and i feel alot more comfortable with it in my ball.
I usually atart with three pieces of tape. If my thumb swells up I take one out. Would rather have e Hume hole a little too big and build it up with tape then have it too tight and not be able to do anything about it.
I have zero in my ball currently. I have had to use up to 4 before though.

i use about 10 pieces a ball....but i had the thumb holes drilled bigger than what my thumb actually is,cause my thumb would swell up after a long tournament and wouldn't fit back in the ball the next day for another tournament. i need to get all my stuff redone soon since i don't bowl as many tournaments these days.
