Seeing as the different span will cause the fingers to have a different angle it is then changing the pitch. Pitch of the holes will affect revs.
Question for your guys. Would the span my ball is drilled have any affect on the rev rate? My old Columbia Messenger has a span that is just over 1/4 inch longer between the fingers and thumb than my new Storm Frantic. When I first got my Frantic, it felt like it was too short and I couldn't hold onto the ball well. I showed the driller my old ball and he said the span was too long on my old ball and the new one was how it's supposed to be. I took her word for it and I have been throwing my Frantic exclusively for about two months.
Today I broke out the Messenger when I got frustrated while practicing. Now the span on the old ball does feel a little too long because I am used to my new ball. But when I throw it, I bet it gets almost twice as many revs and a lot better reaction when the ball hits the friction. The drilling layouts are very similar except the Messenger has a weight hole. Here is a pic of each layout.

So for my next ball how should I have my driller set it up? I want the ball to come off my hand like my old messenger, but the span is almost too much where it's uncomfortable
There are several differences in the 2 balls besides span. The messenger is a pearl vs the hybrid of the Frantic so as a result the coverstock of the Frantic (which is stronger than the Messenger ) will read the lane sooner. The drill angle on the Frantic is larger which will affect when the ball reads the pattern. People are too hung up on rev rate now days. The 2 greates bowlers of all time did not have huge rev rates. Work with what you have and learn to be accurate. Your scores will increase as a result. Too long of a span will result in damage to you hand over a long period of time
Still love the game but had to quit because of my left leg amptation

I know the span on the other ball is too long. I am wondering if I get a ball drilled in between if it will help. I will probably go with a reactive resin ball instead of a hybrid fort next ball too. But the Messenger just l
But the messenger just looks like a normal ball that goes for the lane and reacts at when it hits the break point My Frantic doesn't rev get hardly any revs and just reacts a little when it hits the break. I like the reaults of the messenger a lot better. I threw more strikes with it practicing yesterday.
Sorry for the broken posts but I am on my iPhone and it won't let me go back and edit. Hopefully what I am saying makes sense.
Even though the layouts appear similar, you're still comparing apples to oranges. Move your feet a few boards right and the Frantic will be fine. Reaction off the break point is actually more a product of axis rotation and not revs. Revs get the ball to push past the oil pattern before reading the mid-lane.

I do understand what you guys are saying about revs not being everything and to just play the right line with the frantic. I have made adjustments, gotten used to it and shot some decent scores with it. But when I throw a strike with the messenger, it is actually driving thru the pins where the frantic is just rolling thru. Isn't that a good thing?
I don't have dreams of throwing coast to coast and being a super cranker. I just want a littler more snap at the end. And no matter how I adjust to throw the frantic, I can't get it to rev up like the messenger. And I understand the coverstock has a role in that too. But I can tell by feel that when I release the messenger vs the frantic, I am physically applying more rotation on the ball.
I guess it's hard to explain but when I throw the messenger it feels like there is pressure on my finger tips so when I released it feels like I have leverage on it.
When I release the frantic it feels like it just falls off my hand.
The other thing I noticed is the thumb hole on the messenger is more snug than the frantic too. Would that be a factor too? I already use 3 pieces of tape in the frantic but I don't need any tape in the messenger.
The thumb hole plays a large role in revs, more than most think. As long as it's as snug with the tape it should be about the same though. If not, the extra pressure you will provide will cause the release of the thumb to be later, taking revs away from the ball.
