I've done it with spare balls, but that's about it. I will try to avoid a ball if it's ugly.
I gotta admit I picked the Marauder about 50% based on looks. I figure a lot of balls do similar things so buy the one you dig. Anybody else do this?
BTW.... Does anyone know what the Hellraiser says on it. The marauder says "take no prisoners"

All the balls in the Hell Raiser series say "Raise Some Hell". The Reckless, "Guts of Gutters". Misfit, "Loners, Bowlers, Rebels"
They need to make a camouflage ball that says "Leave No Pin Behind". Maybe camo tan and black with a neon green?

I like pretty colors cause they look pretty going down the lane.
All kidding aside while my balls need to look good, they also have to serve a practical purpose. Sometimes the ugliest ball is the baddest ball, because it has been teased by people for it's looks,so when it finally gets on the lane BAM massive pin destruction.

most of the time i buy the ball on the looks but my last ball the track 716T i bout it on how it performs and the look of it is sweet never thought it would look like it did.

Yep. I mean really you aren't going to know much about how a ball works until after it's drilled anyway
I want a Lucid and someday hopefully a blue ball.
Also buy based on smell too.
The pro at my local shop recommended a few different bowling balls. Of the ones that he felt would be a good first bowling ball, I went with the DV8 Misfit. I have to say that the color (green and white) really jumped off the wall and it was "speaking" to me. The logos, the name and saying on the Misfit was also very appealing. While I'm concerned about the mechanics of the ball, to me having a piece of equipment that you are stoked to use makes me more confident.
#1 on my wish-list right now is a Marauder, and even though it looks really good, looks are not the reason. IMHO, the ball must fit a certain purpose and looks come secondary.

I couldnt agree more...point being there are many balls applicable to a certain breakpoint/ lane condition/ bowler style / core type. I looked at several medium oil balls but liked the DV8 color the best. When I got it and saw it said "take no prisoners" with a dagger on the side....very cool. Guy in my league has a Misfit...it too has the cool saying. Therefore I'm hooked on DV8 stuff just cause I think it's cool. For my next ball.....love the color of the Hellraiser....Like the slogan of the Reckless....I'm a total dork.Need a heavy oil ball though.
