    Default Connecticut

Having lived my formative years in Prospect, CT, todays events make me sick beyond words.

I know we have some Connecticut members on here... Is everyone okay?

Just a little shocked. While I'm sure that my friends who live in Newtown are more deeply affected by this, I don't think that any of them have kids or grandchildren in that class. Despite the tragedies that have happened in the recent past, you never think any thing that evil would happen in a little town like Newtown.

I heard about it at work. I was pissed the rest of the day. I will never understand how a person can so easily take the life of a child. The parents of the victims and the survivors will never be the same again. My God be with them.

I think this one hurts more than any of them. You hate to hear about it anywhere at anytime, but there was just something about this one, and only part of it was because I lived in Connecticut at one point of my life, have spent countless amounts of time with my Aunt who still lives in Connecticut, and I love the state.

I think what hit me hardest was the Christmas tree where I work. It's right outside my office and easily visible to me all day. We wrapped empty boxes to put underneath it as fake presents. When I heard the news I caught it out of the corner of my eye and it hit me: Those parents were getting ready for Christmas. They had bought their children presents and wrapped them to put under the tree. Some were looking forward to Santa. And now they hear they've lost their child during the happiest time of the year? The tree, the presents, everything is just going to be a reminder of their loss. Instead of experiencing the great joys of Christmas they have to plan a funeral. How sick is that. I'm tearing up right now thinking about it. I can't imagine. How do they ever recover? How CAN they ever recover? How can they even think about Christmas ever again after this? This will be the toughest test anyone's faith will ever endure. Prayers don't seem like enough...

Most people have no clue how they will react when faced with a life and death situation. Most also believe that they would do the right things and be a hero.
People like the teacher who hid her class in cabinets and then lied to the gunman telling him her class was in the gym, saving her whole class while losing her own life, that's a true hero.
Military personnel, Police and Fire are all trained to handle life or death situations and many forget that training when the time arises. This teacher just followed her conscious. Protect our children at all costs. Our society could learn a great deal from heroic efforts such as this. May they rest in peace.

We were still in shock over what happened here in Portland, then this happened. What is wrong with the young men in this country?

I am numbed by the whole event. I dare not feel anything, less I give way to rage. I have a 14 year old special needs child and the thought of someone randomly taking that life from me is more that I can imagine. My heart bleeds for all who were impacted by the senseless, violent act.
I live by three simples rules:

    1. Don't ever ask about my business
    2. Never discuss business at the table
    3. Don't ever side with anyone against the family

Reminds me of the Stevie Wonder lyrics:

Love's In Need Of Love Today"

    Good morn or evening friends
    Here's your friendly announcer
I have serious news to pass on to every-body
    What I'm about to say
    Could mean the world's disaster
Could change your joy and laughter to tears and pain

    It's that
Love's in need of love today
    Don't delay
    Send yours in right away
    Hate's goin' round
    Breaking many hearts
    Stop it please
    Before it's gone too far

    The force of evil plans
    To make you its possession
And it will if we let it
    Destroy ev-er-y-body
    We all must take
    Precautionary measures
If love and please you treasure
Then you'll hear me when I say

    Oh that
Love's in need of love today
love's in need of love today
    Don't delay
    don't delay
    Send yours in right away
    right a-way
    Hate's goin' round
    hate's goin' round
    Breaking many hearts
    break-ing hearts
    Stop it please
    stop it please
    Before it's gone too far
    gone too far
I live by three simples rules:

    1. Don't ever ask about my business
    2. Never discuss business at the table
