He did alright today vs. the little kids. The lanes were dry and he made the correct ball choice (a 900 Global the Nuts drilled very weak vs. his Storm Tropical Breeze and Heat). Rolled a 135-142-158=435. Spare shooting was a little better today. We then bowled 3 games of practice. He went 179-148-128=455.

Tomorrow is a singles/double youth tournament. Going to sign him up for the singles. It will be his first experience in a tournament. Interested to see how he reacts.

He is making steady progress. I hope it's fast enough to keep him interested.

He bowled singles and doubles in a tournament today. Bowled decent in singles: 147-185-107=439. His last singles game and all 3 doubles games demonstrated how much he has to learn. A lot of kids were struggling with the lane conditions. Could never fine a line/ball combo that worked for him. He also had trouble hitting his line as well. Doubles scores: 93-102-101=296. Said he had fun so overall a positive experience.

HS match today. Did a little better with spare shooting on familiar conditions. Shot 147-178-159=484. The varsity team is now 7-1 and in first in their division (5-0 since he started bowling varsity).

Team took all 4 points today to move to 8-1. That's basically the highlight. Bowled 128-122-148=398. Lowest series to date for his school. Back to the boards tomorrow for another HS match.

What kind of ball is he shooting his spares with?

Right now he is using whatever of his balls he is using on his strikes shots (Storm Tropical Heat, Storm Tropical Breeze and 900 Global the Nuts, drilled weak). He has a Brunswick TZone (From his have a ball youth league) that will be in the pro shop tomorrow. I plan on stopping by the pro shop after his match tomorrow to get him measured up. He should have it Saturday morning.

That's good to hear. I have no problem with anybody using their strike ball for spares but it is easier to go straight with plastic. With even a weak ball, a slight rotation can cause a couple of boards of hook that wasn't accounted for where with plastic that rotation won't be enough to cause any hook.

I also understand that parent's budgets don't allow for the endless supply of bowling balls that most coaches want their bowlers to have. Rather than teach adjustments they seem to teach ball change (again, easier) but it makes me wonder how many coaches understand the adjustments themselves.

His youth have a ball league ends this Saturday. The travel league resumes Sunday. He is going to join in the scratch division of the youth league that a lot of the kids from the travel league bowl in. I've been told there will be a lot of coaching available for him.

He doesn't seem to understand how to adjust to changing lane conditions and he still has some problems controlling his emotions when things start going wrong. Definitely still a work in progress. But is still having fun and keeps accepting the new challenges placed before him.
