    Default Buying First Ball

    Hi folks,

Just recently decided to join a league for fun with some buddies and they tell me I need to buy my own equipment. Great I can do that but I had no idea it was this complicated.

I am a stroker straight bowler and I want to get better and be competitive and have fun at the same time.

2 balls I am looking at was curious what you thought

    #1 Storm Virtual Gravity Nano

    #2 Storm IQ

Any thoughts or comments are appreciated.

    Thanks

If you're throwing a straight ball, it doesn't matter. If you're looking to eventual throw a hook, then both of those balls are too strong. They are made for heavier amounts of oil than most typical house shots. The Storm Hy-Road is the best, most versatile ball EVER made.

I would suggest finding a proshop to help you. If you are going to continue to throw straight go get yourself a plastic ball. If you plan on starting with a little bit of a hook (which I would suggest) you will want to look at balls such as the DV8 Misfit, Brunswick Slingshot, Ebonite Cyclone. These balls will give you just what you need to get into the pocket while not having to create a crazy sweeping hook like you see so many guys use.

At this point get something easier to control before going to buy a hook monster that you won't be able to control.

Yes I do! I never thought I would love a ball that doesn't have a monster hook, but,I do! It is my go to ball when nothing works and it amazingly has a very nice hook to the pocket. Their is a guy in my sport league and regular league who throw a monster hooks with this ball and it's incredible to watch a ball that is'nt suppose to hook, hook! I higly recommend this ball!

I have to agree. With it being your first ball something along the lines of a slingshot /cyclone would be great. whatever the storm intro ball at that level is they have so many I can't keep track

Misfit is a good ball also but alot stronger than I expected.

Straight bowler, go with something cheap. Slingshot, Freeze, maybe a Misfit. You have no need for a strong ball if your throw straight, your just wasting money. If you are trying to learn to hook it, your still better off cheaper until you have a consistant release.
