Its been a pretty good past couple of days

-I finally learned how to throw a hook with a thumb instead of thumbless (you guys were right about how it offers more accuracy and control)

-Raised my high game up to a 201

-won a DV8 too reckless on ebay for 20$ (to mess around with til i figure out my style)

- still have many form problems but my approach is a consistent 5 step now

Hopefully this week gets even better!

and on a side note, one of my finger inserts fell out of my ball yesterday, would super glue be okay or would bowlers glue to best?

Good job, I too am learning to bowl with my thumb in the ball for the first time. Hooking it was not much of a problem, I actually had less accuracy with my thumb in. That's because I bowled no thumb for a few years, and really worked on, and crafted that delivery. I am in the middle of doing the same with my thumb in. Overall, I am not doing as well, but again, I've been doing this for 5 weeks, and I did that for 3 years. My high game thumbless was 267, with my thumb, 255. So I'm not all that far off, just need to work on consistancy. In the end, it's worth it. I'm not going to run around telling all thumbless bowlers to convert, but I think they should all consider trying it.

yea my problem why how to give the ball revs with a thumb in, then one day during practice it dawned on me to give the ball lift then add revs and success. When i first joined the forum i wasnt forced to go thumb in but many people liked it including anyone ive ever seen that is good at bowling. I honestly feel more comfy now thumb in. I asked about the glue because i saw in another thread about how super glue can make the area around the ball brittle

I don't know this for sure, but I think I read in one of our threads that super glue is a bad idea and can have a negative effect on your ball. I can't imagine what KIND of negative effect it would have, but I don't doubt that can be true...

I tried to find the post, but I couldn't. Sorry. I'd do a LOT of research before using super glue. I know that with some adhesives, they can have a negative reaction to certain surfaces and hurt your ability to get things to adhere correctly in the future.

some glues aren't supposed to be used on plastic because the chemicals can actually cause the plastic to lose cohesion and 'melt' or become brittle. really just depends on what kind of superglue you have.

I use Locktight CA glue, it works fine. Been using it for a while, had no issues.

Rev's are always going to be an issue when going from not using your thumb, to using your thumb. As much as anything, you need to learn to play with less revs. You don't need a super high rev rate to be good at this game, but you need control, and an understanding of where to play with what you have. I have the benifit of a near pro level bowler looking over my shoulder nearly every frame of every game for the last month or so. Not everyone is so lucky. Also, the more games I bowl, the more comfortable I get, the more revs I can generate. Tonight we put a piece of tape on my ball, to mesure the rev rate, and compaired it to when we did the same thing a month ago. My buddy did a rough calculation. Last month, my rev rate was about 200. Not very good when you compair it to my estimated rev rate of 550 without my thumb. However, this time he said my rev rate is right around 400, maybe a little more. It will come with time, and practice, and learning to do it the right way. BTW, bowled my best game ever tonight, 290. Everything is really starting to click. People in my league where puzzled. I averaged 197 without my thumb, and they couldn't figure why I wanted to change. I told them, as good as my average was, I didn't see it in my future. I just started picturing myself as a high backswing, smooth, thumb in bowler, and now I am.

from what ive read, some adhesives will cause a chemical reaction with the resin cover stock of performance bowling balls (not good). when gluing inserts in you are supposed to apply the glue below the cover stock. (can't remember where i read this)

so im guessing just to be safe, i should pick up some glue specifically made for inserts?

That is what I would do. Honestly though I am friends with one the local pro-shop owners so he would probably glue them in for me for free.
