I'm a huge dork, and I'm fine with that! I grew up around music and went through the band program in middle school and high school (percussion, more specifically) and I believe music moves us, and can reach our emotions like few other things can.
I listen to anything except country (sorry... And yes I know I live in Texas, there's just nothing in country music for me. I can't relate to it, and I find the skeletons too simplistic to really excite me. BUT I'm from New Jersey and I LOVE The Boss. I completely understand anyone who says the same things I say about country, about Bruce Springsteen).
Anyway, so as I'm driving to bowling I like to listen to certain songs/playlists to put me in a certain mindset. Sometimes I feel like hard rock is best, other times I'll listen to rap. There's no rhyme or reason, it's just what i feel like at that particular moment. Generally, I never listen to anything too mellow...
BUT one night, not too long ago (but longer than I'd like to admit) I didn't change my playlist on my iPod on my way to bowling. I'll never forget the two songs I heard right before I got to the lanes. The first one was Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd (although I'm using the David Gilmour version from his Pulse concert because it's AMAZING. The guitar is incredible, they did an exceptional job on this version), and the second one was a song called Creep by Radiohead (language warning. It's a mellow song and a great song, but has a couple F Bombs, if that's not your style, don't click). The version of Creep I heard was actually a cover by The Pretenders (who did an excellent job. I LOVE Chrissie Hynde's interpretation and the way she did it. But once again, there's language in her version as well).
Both songs are pretty mellow, and that night I just remember being pretty relaxed, and I ended up with my 695 series (I don't want to talk about it...). So, I ask you, what is your music of choice to get ready to bowl? Do you prefer rock? Something more mellow? What works best for you? Are you unaffected either way?

I prefer some metallica, Black Label Society, Pantera..... some music that just gets me in the mood to beat the crap out of the other team!!!!
hahahahaha. Nice. Being a drummer I don't like Lhars Ulrich at all, but I WILL listen to Tool often. Probably my favorite is not appropriate for this sight, but there's something beautiful about Tool's song "Hooker with a *****" (MAJOR LANGUAGE WARNING!!! Just look at the title and click if you're ready... It's about Maynard being called out by a fan for, "selling out," and him coming back and saying, "Well, wait a minute... Of COURSE I want to sell records! I like the money, and guess what? You bought my record! So... Thanks!). I LOVE Danny Carey, he's one of my idol's, behind the GREAT Carter Beauford (of Dave Matthews Band) and Carl Palmer (of Emerson, Lake and Palmer), and Keith Carlock (most recently of Steely Dan). That triplet back beat in the song is powerful. It's a GREAT get hyped up song.
Quick story about Black Label Society. Back in 2001 I went to Ozz Fest and that was a Black Sabbath year. Zakk Wylde and the Black Label Society opened the main stage. They were tremendous, but the best part was the closing of the concert, Black Sabbath played about 3 songs and the next thing ya know you hear Zakk Wylde's pinch harmonics joining Tony Iommi. It was greatness. Ozzy puts on quite the show!

I would have to say that I can go either way, but if I really want to get pumped up I would have to say something upbeat. This would usually be some sort of hard rock, but I love all sorts of music. Music does drive us and our moods, well at least it does for me.
all awesome music. I love Zakk, especially his solo stuff. I have seen him in a couple of small local shows with just him and his guitar and those are the best concerts I have been to. I always have my moments when I like to listen to BLS but I usually prefer zakk's acoustic music

hahahahaha. I'll accept that. He has one of those voices that make a song work. But Dio has kind of become a joke in recent years, especially songs like Holy Diver.
I'm going to change the genre dramatically. Both of these are rap, and both have their fair share of language, although the first one isn't that bad, so be warned
Any love for Jay-Z? Sounds so soulful, don't you agree? I guess I got my swagger back! I like the use of Otis Redding's Try a Little Tenderness...
This one has gotten old, but it still gets me going! I love Busta Rhymes. This one is REALLY weird because it gets me going, but almost relaxes me at the same time! I love Busta Rhymes part in it. hahahaha.

Like I said: anything but country for me! hahahahaha. Plus, anyone born in the NJ/NY area is pretty much required to like Jay-Z.
